I wish there were a new episode tonight. I don’t know what I’ll do with myself!!
Re-watch episode 1 from season 1! That’s what I did – it was so much fun!
Watch The Good Wife!
I’ll try to read a good book instead.
I’ll try getting to bed early since 4:30 will come at bio-clock 3:30 tomorrow morning.
oldmom4896 – H and I are fans of The Good Wife, but we thought last night’s episode was only so-so/somewhat silly. Definitely missing DA!
Call the Midwife is back on the 29th. I like that as much as DA. No comparison to DA’s costumes and scenery, but great characters and story lines! Loved the character “Chummy” from the start (Miranda Hart) and recently discovered her sitcom “Miranda.” Laugh out loud funny!
I really think that TDH is far too shallow and not intelligent enough for Mary, unless some other aspect of his character is revealed. He seems like a more adventurous version of Tony Gillingham. Charles Blake is her man: very attractive, sufficiently aristocratic, intelligent, strong-minded, forward-looking, hard-working, all in all the ideal partner for her in preserving Downton, which is deeply and fundamentally important to her. He is more like Matthew than any other man she has met.
It was all very well and good for her to flirt with attractive playboys while she had Tom as her partner at Downton, but she won’t have that anymore. She would never abdicate her responsibility.
My coworker visited the Biltmore estate this past weekend and said the DA displays caused a lot of delays on the tour. I had assumed they would have been in one area but they were displayed in various rooms of the house which caused the back up in traffic.
I wholeheartedly agree, @Consolation!
Yes to Call The Midwife!
It most certainly does not have the clothing/furniture/silver/suitor-quality or Dowager Countess of Downton Abbey. But what it lacks in all of those dimensions it makes up in sheer babies!
I absolutely love Call the Midwife so looking forward to it!
Finally caught up so felt free to read through everyone’s comments. Sooo long until next season! I’m going to watch Upstairs Downstairs and then do a rewatch of seasons 1-5, while fast forwarding the Green scenes and lingering on the Mrs Hughes Mr Carson bits.
I thought the Marigold actor was a bit off, but put it down to age rather than any sort of disability. Or maybe even the child isn’t supposed to like Edith?
Downton’s a bit like an orrery, where everyone is in their own orbit and occasionally intersects with someone else’s plotline.
I am going to re-watch the finale at 7pm!
Next week it’s on to Dancing With the Stars. I can only keep up with one show at a time.
Question: How would it be possible to ruin broth to the point that it would be inedible? I get better broth but could it really be THAT bad?
Too much salt?
Hahahahaha! I thought the same thing about the broth! Simmer some chicken, chop some vegetables, add a little salt and pepper… How bad could it possibly have been?
Just finally watched the Christmas special last night after being on vacation. Loved it. Was particularly drawn to the costumes this episode as others have mentioned. Enjoyed reading all these comments tonight and was proud of myself for staying away from this thread prior to watching.
What surprised me most, though? That for a few moments, I was on Barrows’ side and wanted him to succeed in his shenanigans!
I, too, thought Edith looked much softer and human when LG visited her in her bedroom.
