Downton Abbey

He went to Germany to get the divorce so technically he could come back, divorce papers in hand, and scare the bejeezus out of everybody. It’s like when that burn victim claimed to be the heir that drowned on the Titanic.

I really hope not. I think plot lines like that are just plain silly. Let’s let the dead ones remain dead and just move on.

I missed last week’s, so tonight I get to watch 2 hours of Downton Abbey, and then X-Files!

“You read that somewhere”.

“I wonder if Karl Marx might finish the pate”. Mrs. Patmore

“I haven’t been in the kitchen for at least 20 years”

“Have you got your passport?”

Loved the last scene.

That passport line was my LOL moment for the episode:)

Could Lord Grantham have an inflamed appendix?

I couldn’t be less interested in cars if I took a pill to achieve it.

Mary: I hope this means you’re boiling up to make a pass before we’re done.

Henry: Probably. But will you accept?

Mary: No, but I shall enjoy the process enormously.

So many great zingers from the Dowager Countess!

H suspects Lord Grantham has an ulcer …

Did anyone else think Mrs. Hughes looked almost pasty white during that welcome home party in the servants’ hall – or was it our TV? I thought her face looked ghastly!!!

Oh, and I just wanted to smack Daisy!!! Even if it all worked out in the end. Not a bad “cottage” for Mr. Mason. The place looked huge.

What was it that Mrs. Patmore said while imaging Charles Carson and Elsie Hughes’ wedding night? Something about the mystery of life has been revealed to them, something which will never happen to her?

The actress who plays Mrs. Hughes is only 55 and was married for the first time a mere 4 years ago!

It seems to be leading more and more that something bad is going to happen to Robert. I am now thinking death.

The article explains why the virginal, never married Mrs Hughes and Mrs Patmore each took the title “Mrs”.

I’m just not convinced of that. I think there’s equal chance that he has an ulcer or appendicitis, or even gallbladder issues. I think whatever health crisis he has, the local hospital will not be able to handle it and Violet will change her mind (gasp!). I mean, yea, he could die, but I think it could go several ways right now.

“I couldn’t be less interested in cars if I took a pill to achieve it.”

I’ve found my new slogan.

Now, let’s talk about Barrow. He certainly was being dumped on from all sides – even from Lord Grantham. I can see him doing something drastic, suicide-wise. He feels like no one likes him (quelle surprise) and he’s not going to find another suitable position. Whadya you all think??

I think the Dowager Countess and Robert are both going to have a medical emergency; one of them will benefit from the locally controlled health care and one will need the advanced capabilities of the regional hospital. This will require the two sides to come to a compromise that supports both local and regional healthcare.

I honestly don’t think Robert has appendicitis. I’ve had that and it knocks you sideways. Same with gall bladder attacks. I was thinking more along the lines of stomach cancer- it was rampant back then when most meat was preserved by smoking. They definitely are leading up to a hospital crisis. I think the DC is making herself look desperate by bringing in all these random people, but she did make some valid points last night regarding local control.
Is it just me or is Edith standing up for herself more and giving Mary as good as she gets? I wanted to cheer when she asked Mary what was she was going to do now that Tom is back. Mary would have said the exact same thing to Edith only worse. I suspect that Mary is going to find out about Marigold and will be shocked, shocked that everyone kept it from her. She’ll ask Cora why, Cora will tell her, and it will finally give her something to think about. She and Edith will never be friends but the snarkiness may subside a bit.
