Dress people, MOB help???

JEM, glad you love the purple dress! They are all lovely, but that one sings to me.
Garland – love all three of those – as someone upthread said, they are all of a piece and sounds like they look great on you!

I am pretty sure I am going with the blue chiffon – [Adrianna Papell Chiffon Dress | Dillards.com](<a href=“Access Denied”>Access Denied)
No support garments required. I have also re-lost the few pounds I had gained, so I am back at -90 and will try to drop another ten by August. It is slow going now that 10 lbs. represent a larger proportion of body weight!

I also packed six huge bags today of clothes that no longer fit. They will be going to the interfaith clothing distribution center.

garland - loooove the pleated skirts! What a lovely, simple and cute dress.

JEM - very nice. Things that you ordered from Nordstrom can be returned even after a year… so if you change your mind about the crochet dress, it can go back.

“Okay, raise your hand if you bought a dress because of this thread but are not going to a wedding. (Raises hand)”

Me too. Not a fancy choice, just a casual dress. I fell in love with it while looking at Modcloth dot com (which I browsed inspired by you, ladies :))

^ What a pretty dress the blue chiffon is,** CountingDown**! *I *could never wear something like it in my current state, but you have lost the weight so get to enjoy such fun attire!

I would love to lose 10 lbs. in time for my D’s September date but as you say, the going gets tougher as we go along. (I have lost 26 in the past couple of years, but nothing like your accomplishment!)

We are all blessed, though, to be experiencing such wonderful events in our children’s lives.

Raises her hand. Not just one dress but five! All fairly casual. No weddings anytime soon in our house.
I love all of the dresses. It is really nice for all of you to share your selections.

And congrats to everyone on the upcoming weddings. I know you will all look lovely in your beautiful dresses!

Yes, congrats to you all! (And what a lovely thread this is - unlike diamonds and rogue wedding guests, dresses seem to unite folks).

What a busy thread this has been tonight, cool! ;)

JEM: I already told you I’m brutally honest (sorry!) and I don’t want to offend you or anyone…what would you keep the Dillard’s sage green dress for?? :frowning: I honestly don’t know what you look like, but that is not an attractive or youthful looking dress, & again I’m sorry. There are a million better choices out there for you or anyone else with occasions coming up. Please do yourself a favor and return it. Your D liked it??? What did she like about it? Where would you wear it? Don’t waste the money to let it sit in your closet. You are better off selecting garments slowly that “sing to you” as Countingdown stated. It’s more exciting to buy clothes that you really love. If you decide to keep the navy dress, it will look lovely for many occasions and certainly another wedding. Yes, hemming the bottom to come up to the lining will enhance the appearance of the dress, imho. I will be happy to “find” other dresses with you for you to have in your closet…I think we can find other winners, casual, dressier, whatever. No matter the size.

Mom60: That’s really funny that you bought 5 dresses! And Bunsenburner: You too!

Okay, raising my hand, with no wedding to attend. I also picked up the black tights from dressing young and aravon shoes. I will take the dress on a cruise next spring.

chocchipcookie: you do not mince words…and I agree with you. JEM: send back that sage green dress. Too “old lady” looking, plus dated styling. When you need something else, cookie will certainly find you another lovely dress.

^ Thanks for the honest responses re the sage green dress, folks. You have steered me very well so far so I should give your opinions great weight. Honestly, I was initially so uninterested in the navy crocheted dress (because of dark color) that I did not even open the box until D was coming. Then when she saw it and liked it I tried it on and saw that it was much more flattering than I had anticipated.

Dentmom and chocchipcookie you both have made the same points and I hear you. Thanks! It is hard to get opinions that are honest and thoughtful and I really appreciate your input!

JEM: the dress you DID choose is stunning! Lots of elegant details, but not gaudy. A classic look for the mother of the bride.

Thanks, Dentmom :)

Many posters on this thread have been helpful with wonderful dress ideas. I do become a bit obsessed, though, trying to help someone find the right style, fit, etc…Again, I find it relaxing and like the challenge!

JEM:

I just went back to the Nordstrom website to see if I had any luck finding you other appropriate dresses for other occasions. Guess what? I found several, but in particular I’ll share with you three that I hope you’d like…okay, my cutting and pasting skills are awful, but I’ll give it a try…be back in a minute! ;)

Hey CCC - I’m glad I’m not the only one who loves the shiny sparklies of the J Kara dresses. Oooooh so pretty. But I wonder - perhaps a bit too much? Confession - the dress I bought due to this and the dressing young thread (!) and put in the back of the closet to just enjoy and oogle is a shiny sparkly thing of loveliness. I’m not sure I’d ever be brave enough to wear it outside tho, lol. /bonk self. Um. Maybe I should look for some sparkly sandals to wear outside this summer instead. =)

Love the third one: the Patra. The sleeves actually look like they might flatter arms where cap sleeves often do not.

Here are three dresses in your size, JEM, that are better contenders for you instead of that sage green one, imho.

Oops, hugcheck: saw you just posted too…I’m actually not a big fan of much sparkly at all…but I just wanted to see if I could find some more dresses for JEM for her to wear for other occasions. I have one dress in my closet with a little sparkle on the shoulder area and that’s enough for me! Hugcheck…hope you wear a dress you just bought!!!

That’s the problem with us women  we buy things on impulse and then they sit in our closet unworn!!

JEM: Let me know if you like any of those three…same price range as the sage dress but more flattering, imo. More youthful and more saturated colors.

Chocchipcookie, I do really like the three new dresses you chose – wonderful to see that there are such options for women like me!
For now, however, I think I am inclined to keep my closet uncrowded (actually, should clean it out) and quit while I am ahead, with the purple ombre MOB dress (actually, that is safely in my guest room/D’s former room closet!) that everyone agrees on. I will always be grateful, chocchipcookie, to you for suggesting it in the first place, and to others who have chimed in. I thought I had hit a dead end until I got your input, and my D was no help with this. THANK YOU for your very meaningful contribution to a very special day for our family.

I love chocchipcookie’s first dress, but I don’t mind the sage green one as long as the jacket stays on.

You guys are sooo more into this than me, LOL.

I picked the third of my three choices, btw. It just looked better on me. H agreed. I love that the color is officially “Tidal”!

Anyone want to find me some flat or almost flat sandals that match and don’t cost a fortune?  :)

Garland- take a look at the above sandal. It comes in many colors. It has a tiny heel and is very comfortable. Talbots also has several other sandals that come in a wide variety of colors.
