I wear Keds or Keds-like white sneakers with dresses!
I have some P448 and Paul Green, but these are the most comfortable for me for lots of walking.
I think the key to athletic shoes looking fine with dresses is two things:
- That the shoes are not too bulky (doesn’t have to be flat)
- That the shoes are very clean and don’t look like they ran a marathon through a woods before you packed them!
The majority of jumpsuits I’ve tried on did not work for me because my torso is apparently a bit shorter than that mystery average person they’re made for. I don’t have a problem with dresses because they’re more forgiving, but with jumpsuits the problem is amplified so not a good look.
I was so happy when this one in a petite size fit perfectly!
I really like the dress you bought. I think it will be great for Italy.
I have to say that I returned the jeans and have sort of decided to wait on purchasing any new clothes. I have more than plenty and if the economy becomes more stable, then I’ll think of getting some new things.
Things feel weird and I feel as if a spigot has turned off for me this past week.
I think many of us get that.
That said, I have never owned a pair of Rothy’s - partially because I’m not a flats person and partially I just feel they are overpriced because they can be, lol. I also do need a little arch support and the flats don’t seem to give that.
BUT these new espadrilles are SO cute. They definitely spell me. I think they would be great with most travel clothes. I’m still not going to pay $149 for them but I do love, love the look.
I have been looking at these for the past week. I’d love to know if anyone here has bought them what they think.
I got these Rothy’s, there was a sale a month or so ago. I thought they would be good for travel and for spring when sandals aren’t yet right and I’m tired of wearing my boots and need a dressier shoe.
I love the shoes that were linked. I haven’t worn the shoes I bought because it’s been really cold here. I am planning on bringing them when I travel to my daughter’s next weekend and I have a baby shower soon. I think they will look good with maxi dresses.
I like those too. I thought maybe the espadrilles might have a little more support since they aren’t as flat? Rothy users please chime in on which give you a little arch support!
What am I missing? Your linked espredrille mary janes look pretty flat in the photos. I do understand wanting a little heel lift and arch support - same for me.
When I say flat I mean basically nothing between the foot in the shoe and the ground. Many flats are FLAT. On the other end I’m not talking about the degree of support a pair of Hokas often give.
These totally
Might not be supportive enough , but there looks to be maybe an inch or so of shoe between the foot and the ground.
Same here. I have always felt better in the shift style. They are very scarce now so I assume they are way out of style right now. Frustrating. Also, the just below the knee length seems to have disappeared. Midis are too long for 5’4" me and I never, ever wear minis. I don’t even like just above my knee cap. Old hang up, fat thighs, but now it’s old skin and a surgery scar (knee replacement) that is very ugly.
I have a pair of Rothy’s loafers. They are my favorite shoes. While they don’t have a visible arch support, the insole is very soft, and the sole is really springy, which makes them very comfortable. Sadly, the Rothy flats everyone raves about do not work for me.
I noted that bit of heel on the loafers and that’s what got me intrigued by the espadrilles as a possibility.
I’ve been seeing ads for that Mary Jane style. I love the look but I’ve not loved how Rothys fit on my feet. I like a wider toe box. My daughters and my sister wear the pointy toe flats and love them. The friend I passed mine on to also oven them. I have a pair of gray camo slip on tennis shoe style that I like but I can’t walk in them for miles.
I have walked all over Portugal, Mexico City and London in these Taos shoes and love them. They have great support and look good with my dresses or jeans.
I really wanted those exact shoes, because I really like my Taos sandals, but I didn’t want to have to pay return shipping, and I’m a hard fit, so I went with something I could try on in the store.
The Taos shoes are also sold on Zappos if anyone shops there.
For really heavy walking days in Europe I wore my Brooks sneakers, but not with dresses. With a skirt or dress, if I wore a sneaker it was a white leather (keds style) one with no show socks.
I bought some Rothy’s slip-on sneakers a few years ago and they were quite comfortable despite looking pretty flat. I wouldn’t have worn them for a ton of walking though. I probably haven’t worn a pair of flats since the early 90s because I don’t like the way they look on me and I have NO arches in my feet so they are pretty uncomfortable. But Rothy’s seem like they’d be better than most.
