I felt like the blouse I bought, the sleeves weren’t too bad and I felt good in it.
I get all the comments about the styles out right now.
I bought a Somerset dress from Anthropologie last fall. It’s so cute. But every time I put it on to wear, I feel just uncomfortable. It’s a lot of fabric and I can’t put my finger on it but I take it off and wear something plainer.
I did recently buy this short sleeve sweater. Looks really nice with white jeans. Is pretty without being fussy.
Pretty sure it’s a Talbots issue. The sweater is not new so they must be issues linking to their website
I bought it and wore it last night to dinner with friends. My least favorite part is the sleeves are puffy. I kept it as I wanted to have a throw on with jeans top that wasn’t a t shirt.
I didn’t mean to indicate that your top (and @deb922 ) was overly puffy - but the one I tried on - a dupe so to speak - WAS noticeably stick out puffy! The anthro one sleeves seemed softer.
I feel like we like a lot of the same styles. I have the knock off of that dress from Quince and I feel the same way. I tried giving it to my daughter when she was here but we got busy and didn’t try it on.
I did my two dresses last week from a random shop I’ve driven by many times but never stopped. They are both European brands that I hadn’t heard of. Frnch and traffic people.
My favorite skort is by Toad and Co.
Some of the ones posted are cute but slim fit. I prefer something not so slim fit because even in the course of a work day at home I’m active. That’s why I’m looking also for lightweight and NOT regular weight jean material.
@abasket do you have a Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack you can go to? I was at Nordstrom Rack last week and picked up this light weight denim skirt from Rollas and I am already in love with it. It’s longer than what you are looking for, but so cute and comfortable.
I also have a couple of Gap denim skirts I’ve gotten over the years.
I can’t buy into the Somerset dress either. It looks ok on the models but I’m guessing they are tall, so that might be it. My 30 y.o. has worn several of them (she does Nuuly) and although she is very slim and stylish, I don’t love the dress on her either (she is 5’6"). She and her friends are also doing the billowy dress/puffy sleeve trend and it’s not my favorite. They are all beautiful and the dresses don’t flatter them, IMO.
I am struggling to find 2 outfits to wear to graduation. I am not a dress person and would not look good in any billowy/puffy-sleeve style, so I’ve ruled dresses out. I think I am going to just do slacks and a dressy top for both ceremonies. Her university is not “bougie” and both ceremonies are in the outdoor football stadium, no matter what the weather, so I think I’ll be ok in slacks. I’m having trouble with tops though because so many things are cropped (my slacks are high-waisted at least). I’m so accustomed to athleisure, I hate dressing up!
Ugh! I have problems finding that perfect white denim skirt, too! I used to be able to wear mini length, even just 6-7 years ago, but my thighs have gotten so crepey. It’s hard to find ones just a few inches above that are lightweight, more casual, chambray type denim. Good luck!
After clearing out my closet and being very strict with what I’m keeping, I can see what I’m lacking and do need to go shopping. I’m with @Hoggirl on this one…I’m so sick of the peasant milkmaid look. Personally I love puffed sleeves, or a ruffle here or there, but not the entire silhouette. I’m so over it. I’m tired of midi dresses, because I don’t wear those to a casual restaurant, but would a shorter dress…and I’m not liking most of those either.
So, I’m in desperate need of short sleeve tops that conceals my tummy a bit. Oh….how I wish I could tuck in tops again. I only do that if I wear a blazer. So, I’m looking for peplums. Babydoll and empire waist look horrid on my long torso.
I found this at WHBM today. It’s very lightweight and so cute on. I won’t be able to wear it in very high humidity, but should be able to most of the summer. I got the mint, 30% off today. Runs small.
I also bought this from Anthropologie . More material than I like, but it looks really cute on. I don’t like it on the stock model, but I liked it on me.
The last thing I bought was a in the moment purchase. I don’t think I’ll wear it without a jacket, but it did look good with one on. It’s a bit cropped fair me. You short waisted gals would really like it. 30% off.
I was in a Sundance clothing store a month ago and tried on an adorable top with big flutter sleeves. I just couldn’t do it. It looked cute but just felt like way too much sleeve for me.
I’m also linking the WHBM tees I got (in multiple colors). I cannot do a crew neck - looks terrible on me. I much prefer a scoop neck. These are also 97% cotton/3% Spandex. I appreciate that they have some shape to them (because I don’t like boxy either), but they aren’t overly clingy. They are a ribbed knit and decently substantial. I’d buy more colors if they had them.
I love that flutter sleeve top @conmama but that mint color is not for me. I have enough black and cream, and I didn’t like the patterns. I do love the shape/ruching (sp?)
My day got uber busy. Appreciate the postings and I haven’t had a chance to look myself but overall would say I’m looking for less structure and some looseness! I hate anything too fitted at the waist.
When I find something “similarly to what my mind envisions I’ll post it!
Honestly, that’s why I do a lot of consignment shopping (even Goodwill). They have all the styles from many years and I can pick what works for me. The market seems flooded with prairie dresses and I’m thinking: ‘no, did that in 7th grade; not again.’
