Dressing Young 2025

I really like the first one: the color (gorgeous) and the sass. And you are petite so I bet it looks fabulous on you.

I ordered the dresses recently, they should be here this weekend. I do think I look better in short dresses, they don’t overwhelm my frame.

I am short. The second dress reminds me of a farm Rio dress, I really have no idea what it will look like on me.

I want to wear maxi dresses, I just don’t think they are the best length for me. I’ve tried the 3rd dress on, I liked it, I didn’t love it. It’s not as busy as the photo and the fabric is very light so it drapes nicely.

Those are pretty dresses!

As for the denim jackets- I think they are classic and a wardrobe staple. So I don’t ever think that they are “ out”.

I think you’d look great in #1 though I also like #2 a lot!

I would choose #2 for me. But, I also really like #1. And, I think you prefer shorter??

Another vote for 1 and 2! I see denim jackets all over the place, but we are not the most fashion forward here in the PNW!

I think/hope that as Americans start to think more “green” about keeping stuff out of the landfill we’ll see it become more acceptable to continue wearing beloved items of clothing as long as we like them and they fit.

So I have a lovely, comfortable denim jacket from a local shop (has fabric insets, unique style). It was a gift my husband helped me pick - I’ll keep it a long time. I have a black jeans jacket on sale from Kohls for $11 that fits well, but the fabric is stiff and uncomfortable. I’ll keep for a while for occasional use over dresses, but it’s not a favorite.

I don’t think denim jackets ever go out, however lengths, fits and rinses may change from timer to time.

I dislike dresses on me but ordered this one to try for one of the graduation ceremonies. I also dislike my arms so I will either wear a featherweight cashmere cardigan or a fitted denim jacket (no rips or distressing) and a comfy pair of casual sandals in the light ivory color. Thinking of this for the early morning all-school ceremony, which is outside, and may still be cool/dewy.

I really wasn’t liking all the prairie florals but this pattern didn’t bother me as much and wearing a jacket/cardigan will break it up a bit. I also think I can wear it to other things (upcoming weddings, vacations, etc) which is a biggie for me. I don’t like to buy at this price point and only wear once.

Love it.

That’s a beautiful dress and sometimes we have to pay a bit more for something we just love!

Well, I ordered the dress in shown color, X-small. I have something similar in navy from Vineyard Vine. Easy to throw on.

I agree with the “green” concept - and I bet 90% of us have more in our closets than we actually need.

But we all have our things that “give us joy” and for some people that’s a well stacked closet. One person travels, one person buys expensive or lots of clothing!

I think what is key is how you share what you don’t want - it IS green to donate or resell.

I also think we have all fallen for a purchase just because it was “such a good deal” when in fact it wasn’t the right thing for us. Was your Kohl’s jacket in that category? I can be very unhappy wearing something that is not comfortable on me - ask my family. :winking_face_with_tongue:. That is also a case of be “green” and donate - someone else may want what is not the best fit for you.

Second hand shopping is SO big right now. A consignment shop is likely to have many options of those jean jackets!!! I have one that is just too snug for my comfort so I’m having my husband sell it on eBay!

That’s a beautiful dress. I’m looking for a dress in similar colors, also for a morning all-school graduation ceremony. Wishing I could predict what the weather will be that morning since it could be anywhere from a drizzly and cool to hot and humid.

Somewhat. It was a small/petite, often a hard size to find size. I don’t feel terrible I bought it because I’ve gotten some use out of it. It was likely on its way to wherever Kohls rejects go after sale/50% rack at end of season. (I assume donation somewhere, hopefully not landfill.)

@CollegeNerd67 I love the dress. I hope it works for you.

D2 and I are going to a clothing swap on Sunday. It is a monthly event held in different areas of the city. We both have some decent items that we would prefer to give to someone rather than just donate them.

It’s not that we mind donating, but we are not fans of giving things to Goodwill because of the high executive compensation. We actually donate to a small charity in town which has women who have left domestic violence situations come in and shop for clothes.

Sounds like a cool event.

I too have concerns about Goodwill. I donate to ARC - like their mission, and dropoff is easy peasy 7 days a week. Still there are times where I have clothes that I especially want to go to a good cause, where they will be given away for free…. they go to a clothing bank at a local church.
