Womanwithin sells terrific tees at good prices. Lots of colors and patterns available. Good fabric, well constructed, wash well, no shrinkage. BUT–their smallest size is a 12 so they won’t work for people on the smaller end of the size scale.
Another good option is Gildan tees at Michael’s. These are good quality tees but because Michael’s is selling them as craft supplies rather than fashion they are usually priced under $5.
I’ve had a bunch of Madewell Whisper Tees…they are nice, lightweight, come in crew or vneck. They do ultimately disintegrate though, but price is ok for that.
IME, these are too thick and long, and not soft enough. Like I said, I’m picky LOL, and it does also matter how one wears their tees…tucked in or not, as a layering piece, etc.
I wonder how many of us are picky tshirt buyers, I know I am! Must be lightweight but not nylon/drifit type. Not too long in length, not too long in sleeves even for short sleeves. I usually prefer a crew with a slight scoop. Not to scooped! Also like boxy tees.
I don’t look great in a crew neck for some reason. A scoop or a v is more flattering.
White is especially difficult as it’s hard to find something that isn’t see through or stretched out in the neck after a few washes.
Not surprisingly for me, I buy quite a few from Talbots. They go very cheap at the end of the season, I’ll stock up. Any brand I buy only lasts a season or two, no reason to spend a lot.
I golf a lot, sleeveless polos are another summer staple that’s hard to find a good one. My course has no dress code so I often wear tee shirts with shorts.
I’ve seen some on Boden that I’m tempted to try. I think they are double thickness. I haven’t looked in a while. I like substance and shape to my t-shirts. And, I sure don’t want thin fabric with a white t shirt.
I have tried the Madewell ones. My issue with those is that they don’t keep their shape, particularly around the neckline.
I’ve looked at the Everlane ones and will have to give them a try.
Believe it or not, I don’t hate the Amazon T’s but my issue there is that they are longer than I like.
I have a couple of Buck Mason T’s and I don’t like them. One is a very heavy material that is way too hot for a southern summer and the other is slub-like material but has absolutely no shape.
What do people think about swim skirts? I’ve never worn one, but I ordered one, and it looks fine. I got it because I was worried the bikini bottoms of this set might not be enough coverage for me (with tankini top), but they are fine. I can see use for the skirt when I take miles Long Beach walks (pretty much daily on some beach trips), but some board shorts over my suit would work just as well, and I already own them. I’m not sure I think the skirt is worth the added cost. https://www.garnethill.com/high-tide-swim-skirt/695362?uniqueId=695362&isNewProduct=true&hideNewTagFromPLP=false&searchTerm=High%20tide&
I just dumped all my swim skirts in favor of high-waisted bikini bottoms. After wearing them for many years, the swim skirts were making me feel matronly (they look very cute on the Garnet Hill model though). I just pull on a midi or maxi skirt over them as a cover up.
I buy the high waisted bottoms from Albion Fit and then pair them with a solid color halter tankini from LaBlanca or other brands that I like. I’m not a fan of Albion’s top styles. I also recently bought a high waisted bottom and a long-line bikini top for a vacation from a swim company in Australia. It left about 2 inches of skin exposed in my mid section Definitely outside of my comfort zone but I felt pretty good in it, considering I am not a single-digit clothing size.
Swim skirts can work well. I have a navy set of bikini top/botton plus skirt that goes over. (Also coordinating tanking top and bottom. Lots of combos.). But I’ve often found myself using shorts or swim coverup dress instead.
I was discussing jeans on the prior dressing thread. AYR had ( maybe still today , if interested act quickly) a 20% off sale but sold out in my size.
Ordered from quince today, got the stretch mid rise flare in the darker wash. They are back ordered and will ship in April. I’ll let you know.
Your post made me think of something. I’d be very careful about ordering backordered items that individually ship from China or any place abroad. Should not be a problem with larger retailers like Quince that ship things in bulk.
I love swim skirts. I’ve purchased probably a half dozen of this style over the past number of years. We do two ocean/swim based get aways each year. These seem to last well enough given their price tag.
Sadly, swimming gives me hives—cold water—so I’ve given it up and rarely wear any swimwear. H isn’t a swimmer either so we don’t miss it too mulch. zits a pity, since we live on an island and several of our loved ones have pools.
I find one issue with swim skirts is how to do a coverup without all the bulk underneath. I think they are not long enough to wear if I want to get lunch with just a top cover. I have the same issue with swim shorts. If I’m on a boat or in my home pool the shorts and skirts work great.
I used to only wear tankini or one pieces in “public” but I’ve embraced the two piece. I find they dry quicker, are easier to get on and off and easy to throw a dress over or skirt and t shirt.
