Dressing Young 2025

Isn’t that what a fichu is for ? Heroines are always wearing them in my romance novels! And removing them after leaving the house for the ball. Apparently now they have modesty panels.

I’m thinking I’m a little too busty to add stitches or extra hooks because the fabric would pull too much in an awkward way. I had considered ordering a large instead of a medium, but then I think it might need too much altering. Oh well, as they say on Project Runway, “Make it Work!” so I’ll figure it out (which will hopefully include dropping a few pounds in the meantime ).

Love it! Something like that could work, but will try the camisoles first. Those might be more comfortable though.

I just can’t get behind the wide leg pants/jeans.

I’m short and they feel too wide. I’m more of a boot cut or straight leg.

A wide leg is better in a crop length but full length is so much material! I don’t think it’s a look I will get used to as I feel that it’s so much fabric, even hard to walk in lol

Also I don’t think my arms are that fat but a band on a short sleeve shirt feels so binding.

It seems that the sales are all the time now and lots of discounts out there. Could be the styles, could be people aren’t buying as much, could be a combination of things

I’m buying socks, underwear and pajamas! I did buy a purse from Nordstrom, will see how I like it.

I think wide leg jeans are just the current trendy thing that will go away. You are correct in that I believe they look better on taller people, slightly cropped. I own one pair with all over tiny silver studs. They come to my ankle. I wear them with silver booties. I know I’ll get one more upcoming season out of them, but who knows the next one.

I miss skinny’s.

I’m on the taller side, and a lot of my height is in my legs. I bought a pair of wide leg (not barrel, more flared) jeans in the spring. While I prefer my basic boyfriend style for just wearing around because they’recomfy and don’thavelots of extra fabric, every time I wear those full jeans, I get compliments. The are indeed very flattering, but I agree with everyone that says they feel like a lot of material!

I just purchased 7 pairs of jeans at the Nordstrom sale, in search of 1 that worked. I think I found them - Frame Boyfriend jeans in a light wash. I actually purchased them in 2 different “colors” (one was $50 more than the one that eventually went on a better sale - and I really do want the more expensive one). They feel like my jeans from decades ago. It’s hard to figure out what size to go with - I think I’m keeping the smaller size, because after I wear them for an hour they will be “just right.” I may try some Mother jeans since Bloomingdale’s is having a sale, but I’m not sure what their return policy is and there’s no Bloomies near me.

Frame Boyfriend jeans are my favorites! If you like the way they fit, you might get lucky with AG or Nili Lotan. Mother isn’t bad, but those other 2 are a bit better.

Thanks! I actually ordered a pair of AG also - they will arrive by EOD tomorrow. Then I get to do the “big return.” I went to the store twice, but they didn’t have any for me to try on. ETA - I also tend to like Rag and Bone, but the Frame ones were my faves for what I was looking for this time.

I have three pairs of the flowy cropped pants, and I am pretty short (5’4” and a little change). I agree on the amount of fabric issue. I notice it most when I’m seated and crossing my legs. It’s less bothersome on the lightweight black gauze and lightweight denim ones I have. The bulk is very noticeable with the khaki twill with cuffs pair.

They are all slightly above my ankles, and I like them with flats or heels.

I find the cut flattering on me even though I’m short. I think it’s because those are usually cut to be very high-waisted which works well with my long torso.

I’m of average height and I’ve been shocked at how much I love my wide legged cropped jeans. They were an out of comfort zone purchase and I’ve gotten a ton of compliments. They are Citizen, I used to only wear AG but as I’ve gotten older they don’t fit as well.

Who can point me in the direction of nice quality belts?

I’m specifically looking for a black, leather belt with a silver buckle to wear with jeans. So, not too skinny, not too dressy, but not western or with any novelty do-dads. I have one that I bought a long time ago from WHBM that I love. It has a sort of elongated belt buckle with an oval shape. But, the buckle is now tarnished and the belt is cracking/peeling? The quality of things just ain’t what it used to be.

I don’t mind paying for something that will last and has a timeless look. The silver buckle seems to be a problem. Our Brighton store closed. Are they still around? They always seemed more do-daddy/ornate to me.

Any brands to look for?

Is there a J Crew store in your area? I found some really nice, well made leather belts at our local store.

I remember putting a really nice belt in my JCrew cart, but not ordering it for some reason. They do seem nice.

No, we only have a J Crew outlet.

We were actually on a weekend getaway this weekend, and I looked in the J Crew store, but all the buckles were gold. I have a black belt with a hood buckle, but it just seems dressier to me.

They are not cheap! $50-$90 a pop.

How about something like this one?

This is not for everyone but I find myself looking at Poshmark and EBay for items that I love but wore out over time for me. You can often find your exact item that you love in new/nearly new condition and whoosh! That thing you love is back in your closet!

You are not alone. I occasionally hunt down things I love on RealReal. Or an item from a past collection that got sold out too quickly for me to grab it when it went on sale.

I bought one at Madewell last year, believe they still sell.
