Thank you! ![]()
I once ordered a bracelet from Nordstrom that was on sale. The box arrived empty
. I wanted them to send a new one, but they would only refund my money, and told me to place a new order. Of course, the item was no longer on sale and they wouldn’t honor the sale price.
I’ve been trying to catch up on this thread. Fallgirl, I love the jacket!
I’m in the midst of changing over my closets for fall and have determined I really don’t need anything! I recall not wearing several items last year and don’t want to repeat that. I have so many jeans! Argh! I have been trying to supplement other color bottoms though
I need to stay out of the stores. Saying that I just bought an outfit from Macys for my vacation, but I bought them in olive green because the gold studs stand out. It snaps at the hem. I also bought the matching blouse with the detachable tank. I’m buying gold pumps to match.
I recently had a Nordstrom rack dress come stained. I called and they did the order cancel and placed the new order for me on the phone, so that I could get the new dress on the same terms as the one I was returning (free shipping and same price).
Love the pants! Great find.
After digging through my closet, I decided that my beach vacation wardrobe needs some updating. Ordered this dress which seems to have excellent reviews. I keep my summer dresses for a few seasons, so if it fits, paying the full price will be justified. ![]()

Fingers crossed.
That’s super cute, Bunsen!
I love that dress!
I love that dress, too! I found a jumpsuit from ASTR that I was going to sell on my Poshmark closet but it fits me perfectly. But I just hate the skin in my arms now. I can’t never go sleeveless, I need to try to get over this.
Are ponchos in style now? I’ve read they are, but are they really? I have this one I was going to sell, but I really like it. Maybe I’ll keep it one more year just to see if I wear it. I love the faux fur collar and the asymmetrical hem. It’s been sitting in my drawer for 5 years or are ponchos considered old lady?
I am not the fashionista some here are. But I think I can put together an outfit! IMO trends become trends because someone styled a piece(s) well. You are probably not wearing that poncho with cut off ragged jeans shorts and some dirty athletic shoes - you will style it and it will look great!
Time to wear things we love and then make give them the star treatment with how you style it.
And the poncho looks like it can either be a statement piece or blend in - depending how you style!
I don’t think of ponchos as “old lady”! For me, hard to wear. So it’s really a matter of whether you have a use for it.
But hive mind, how much – and when --does"in style” matter. A recent IG feed showed two outfits, the “used to be stylish” and “updated to now”, and if I were shopping today, I’d have wanted the used to be. Even classics have some style. Thoughts?
I want it to be the main attraction of the outfit.
I’ve been seeing those on my FB feed, also.
I’d love to see some examples!
Updatedstyleguide is the IG account that made me think about this.
I think social media has been successful in manipulating women to be overly concerned about whether they are always in style or always on trend - when most of us aren’t spending our days at NY Fashion Week or walking the streets of Milan.
For every post trying to tell me what cut of jean is currently the “go-to”, I see many stylish women wearing the cut of jean that is supposedly “out” and looking very chic in whatever they are pairing with it. We are players in a huge marketing ploy to get us to buy whatever “they” tell us is currently in style.
There are obvious “NO’s” for me, at my stage in life (but to each, their own): ripped jeans (I don’t mind a subtle raw hem), cropped tops (to the waist is fine with high waisted pants), tie-dye, micro-mini skirts. But, if I want to wear a poncho or a skinny jean, I’m gonna do it. I highly doubt my fellow shoppers at Trader Joe’s will care (but Whole Foods shoppers are another story
)
Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident!
Well said!
@collegenerd67, I love this perspective! Especially as an older woman with a closet full of nice items.
And yet - I am a little haunted by my younger self, who when seeing someone wearing something very dated, had an initial reaction of “don’t they know that xyz is a thing of the past?” I might have felt a little cringe-y for them. So maybe my current insecurity about this is payback for those times! But it does feel like certain items really pass an expiry date, and I’m just not sure, given my life of more limited circulation, when that is. (Think about hairstyles from the 80s - I know that expiry date!)
Certainly, most of us develop a sense of what works - and doesn’t - for our bodies and lifestyles. Love hearing how people navigate that without looking like they emerged from a time capsule.
Totally agree! I’m an 80’s teen and I admit to loving tie dye and having almost pressed the “buy now” button a couple of times
That said, I have a close friend, also my age, who is a die hard Grateful Dead fan and she still reaches for the tie dye.
I don’t pretend to be a fashion expert. For instance, today I am in leggings (which influencers have said are now “out”) and a “vintage” Athleta pull over sweater hoodie (like 15+ years old). If it covers my rear end, I’m happy! I also like the OG Athleta styles MUCH better than the current styles.
I try hard not to cast judgment on the wardrobes of my peers. Exceptions might be if they look indecent or if they are spending too much time in the “tweener” section of the store.
