Dressing Young 2025

That is adorable! I really like the store but really think thru my choices as they are $$$.

Not to yuck a yum, but SHEIN is one of the worst companies for horrible labor practices. When I was in Paris, there was a large protest outside of the BHV department store which has opened a SHEIN boutique. One of the issues was a child-like sex doll SHEIN was selling. They stopped selling it, but the criticism remained.
Galeries Lafayette has severed it’s relationship to the owners of BHV and says they will remove their name from the stores in other cities where SHEIN will have boutiques.

@zeebamom thank you for posting that article. Neither of my daughters, both in their 20s, will buy things from Shein due to their labor conditions. I always had heard the clothes were cheaply (poorly) made “fast fashion” popular with younger girls/women so had never even looked at what they sell. Then I started seeing Shein mentioned on social media by women my age but based on what my daughters had previously told me, I never considered buying anything from them.

I have plenty of time to figure this out but I need some help.

We have a wedding to go to in September in Colorado. Ceremony and reception are at the top of a mountain. Only accessible via gondola. Attire is “cocktail” but we’ve been warned there is open grating boarding/exiting the gondola so no stilettos/thin heels. Ceremony is at sunset. Cocktail hour following is outdoors and we’ve been told to bring layers and outerwear. We’ll move indoors for dinner and dancing.

I have a black cocktail length dress that could definitely work. It’s simple black, a-line, v neck, with a lower v back with criss crossing black beading. It is 3/4 length sleeves and I can bring a pashmina and my black dress coat.

The real issue is shoes! I’m considering bringing ballet flats to wear for the gondola ride and dancing, and changing into heels for the rest.

That would also require me bringing a bag large enough for the shoes. I have a black leather Kate Spade tote but would that look stupid to carry?

Would a chunky lower heel look Ok with a cocktail dress?

I’m also not wed to wearing this dress so am open to any other ideas!

TIA!

lol, no big suggestions except it sounds like everyone needs to pack a suitcase of options to attend! IMO, with 3 various settings and the limitations, the couple should not have too high expectations on people fitting in a certain category. No one will wear jeans and Nikes but that’s a lot to figure out!

I would wear the flats and carry the heels in a tote. I suspect a lot of others will do the same.

Is there a coat check of some sorts? I would also carry the heels in a tote that can be left at the place where people are going to be leaving their coats.

I LOVE my Patagonia down vest, but I ordered one from Nordstrom Rack for my husband that’s Cotopaxi, and it’s very nice/fits him well. It was on sale for $99, and they may have women’s.

ETA it’s only the men’s vest on sale, but it’s nice/a good deal.

A wedge shoe is another option, but I think in Colorado there will be lots of different shoe styles. With cocktail length dress I think anything from flats to heels will be fine.

I’ll Look!

Looks like only a men’s but that’s a good deal. https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/cotopaxi-fuego-water-resistant-800-fill-power-down-vest/7526793?origin=keywordsearch-personalizedsort&breadcrumb=Home%2FAll%20Results&color=002

How exciting. Yes, it will likely be chilly at the top of the mountain. Perhaps quite breezy too. (If you PM me with name of resort, I might know more details of the gondola etc). Good you’ll have the dress coat an pashima. Be aware that the cocktail hour might be on a deck, so perhaps save the heels for indoors. I think it would be fine to have a tote… others may do the same for extra layers.

Sorry about that - I looked too, but you beat me to posting.

Are flatter shoes, perhaps with a wide flow-y leg pantsuit an option you’d consider? You could still be dressy and glam, just a little more covered up.

I like that cute, mod dress, @abasket! It has a fun, abstract, 1960s vibe. I enjoy straight up and down dresses/skirts too- fresh and cool.

Yes, I’d consider that!

I did try on my dress with the flats and my H says it looked good. I’ll have to ask my D what she thinks when she’s home next week as I trust her fashion judgement more than my H.

What do people think of this dress for my CO wedding? Long Sleeve Tuxedo Jacquard Combo Gown In Midnight Multi - Adrianna Papell

I like it with the clunky heels the model is wearing as that would work with the metal grating around the gondola. I’m just not sure if this kind of dress would swallow me up as I’m only 5’3. Thoughts from the experts?

Very nice dress. I’m not an expert, but I say try on the dress and see how you feel in it.

I wish they had a brick and mortar store as I hate having to return things!

I also wish the dress came in petite. I’m worried that the sleeves are going to be way too long. I know that can be altered though but I usually don’t spend that much on clothing to begin with so it would e an added cost.

I’m going to need to do a mall trip at some point and just try on a bunch of stuff and see what looks best on me. I feel less pressure knowing that I do have something in my closet that can work. I also know that I’m hitting the season of having friends’ kids getting married, so I could use another option in my closet! I’m likely going to another wedding two months later.

Found it in Dillards - do you have one of those near you?
