Dressing Young 2025

I love that dress! Macy’s has it in a different color - but in petites!

I like Adrianna Papell, especially the styles available in petite. Chunky heels make sense, but I’d probably want closed shoes myself (I get cold quite easily).

Both dresses are really pretty (I like the gold a little better), but I agree it could swallow you a bit. Maybe do your mall run after Christmas and see what styles fit best and hopefully get some good deals. I like the idea of a wedge heel or potentially a tall wedge boot depending on the style of dress you choose. I also like the idea of bringing a tote if you need extra shoes and then you can bring a smaller purse for the table and store the tote with the coats.

My comment is I like the blue better AND I think it might be more versatile for more occasions - the gold reads “holiday” to me and right now - November 18 - holiday looks attractive! But the blue for me offers a broader range of occasions over more times of the year to wear it

Both dresses are lovely. The black is more dramatic but the blue may be more versatile. I’d definitely agree that you have to try it on to be sure it’s something you are comfortable in.

If you don’t like the fit of the dress (which I think is very pretty) you might try a skirt/top combination. I recently ordered a taffeta skirt from Boden and wore it with a light sweater for an evening outdoor wedding. I like that I can wear it with multiple tops for future occasions. I bought the navy, but it is available in other colors.

I think that dress is gorgeous and like the black and gold better, but totally agree with Abasket on the time of year. I think you could wear that the black thru February.

I like those block heels. I would never put a wedge with that dress.

I prefer the black and gold. I predict the petite will fit you better, too. I do agree that the gold is more holiday. And, which color would look better on you may depend on your coloring.

I love the dress- both colors are beautiful. I’ve carried a tote with a change of shoes to many weddings and just put it under the table. I’ve done it so much that now my friends are, too.

Is there a way you can discuss the mountaintop wedding attire thoughts with other attendees? I know you said cocktail, but Colorado events can sometimes lean more casual than other places. Not always though… we attended a lovely high end wedding at a park-like location….some in the wedding party had cowboy boots, but most guests were fairly formal. After the dining in a tent, some changed shoes for dancing in the “barn”. (The bride actually had teva sandals under her long, poofy gown - nobody knew til she showed us)

I’m close to the mother of the bride so I absolutely can get her input!

I’m team blue dress, for a non-holiday event. I think it’s more versatile, but both are pretty.

I love the gold but it’s definitely more of a statement dress. Since you are close to the MOB, maybe find out what she’s wearing before you choose the gold. I do love the silhouette of the dress!

Anyone from or familiar with Carmel, CA in July? I’m going to a wedding there next year at a $1,000 per night resort, so very upscale. It’s outdoors in the evening and I’m wondering what the temps are like there at that time of year. Does it get cool once the sun goes down? Knowing the bride, I’m assuming the attire will be black tie.

My daughter is in the wedding, and the bride has chosen shades of yellow and green for the bridesmaids. I’m very curious to see how this pans out, as she has assigned each a color and is letting them pick their dresses (with her approval, of course). She is also sending suggestions and she sent this one to my D:

My daughter’s response: I’m not paying $500 to look like Big Bird

She’s not one to mince words. She’ll also be almost 4 months post-partum and although she is a tiny pregnant woman right now, she is unsure how her body will be at that time. At least that dress is forgiving :winking_face_with_tongue:

Looking for some feedback on a dress to wear to my daughter’s baby shower. It’s in February but the theme is a garden/butterfly vibe. She is having a girl but is not an “everything needs to be pink” person. I’m also not a dress person and I struggle every time I have to look for one. I like that this one has long sleeves (it’s February) but also incorporated a little bit of pink(ish) and a floral theme. I can return it if it doesn’t work.

Thanks in advance.

I’m with your daughter on that! I can’t imagine asking someone to pay $500 for a dress they didn’t even pick out.

I’m also with your D. Glad she spoke up to the bride!
