If you want to give the bride the benefit of the doubt, maybe she thought this would allow your D to not have to stress about fit with her post-partum body. Or if you are feeling less generous, maybe the bride wanted a foil!
Good for her! That dress will be hideous on anyone who is not rail thin and 6 feet tall. It will be just plain ugly on rail thin, 6 feet tall ones.
That is a tricky color to find. I had that color in mind when looking for my MOB dress and in the end, wore a floral maxi.
I love the floral dress choice for the baby shower! I think it’s perfect!
That yellow dress - oh dear.
One of my big fears is my yet unknown/TBD dil will want me to wear yellow as the MOG. I have nothing against yellow in general, but it is the absolute WORST color on me. I’d do it with a smile, but I would be most unhappy.
I can’t wear most shades of yellow either. My skin looks just awful. I think that’s one of the hardest colors for most people to wear.
I agree. But for people it looks good on, it can be so amazing.
Yes, I think that’s what the bride was thinking.
It’s an interesting color pallet to choose. There are so many shades of both yellow and green. I’m looking forward to seeing the vision in person!
I think the right shade of yellow will look good on her. She has her dad’s Italian genes and tans easily. I assume she’ll at least get a spray tan for the event. I know all the bridesmaids and am curious to see which color they were assigned.
Thanks for the feedback on the dress for the baby shower. I think I will pull the trigger, since I can always return it.
How about this yellow dress for your bridesmaid daughter. ![]()
Saw this on Fashion Critical and immediately thought of this discussion about yellow dresses.
If that is Keystone it’s where my son got married on a Labor Day. There were snow flurries! It was beautiful but I definitely recommend a wrap for outdoors. I wore wedge heals and was fine. If I remember correctly there was a coat rack. Since I was MOG I had a long dress with an additional long sleeve fly away top with it which was comfortable the rest of the time. The altitude can get to you. Bathrooms were down a long staircase and I got out of breath climbing back up
. Be sure you are drinking a lot of water for dry mountain air and altitude.
People who don’t like yellow because it washes out their skin tones (Winters) can sometimes carry off ice or pale yellow, like this shade:
Or this in lemon:
The wedding is in Steamboat Springs. But thanks for the warning that it could be cold enough for flurries!
Snow in Sept is possible, so good to be prepared. Temps can vary widely from day to day, always much cooler once the sun goes down. Expect it to be cooler/windier up top than at the gondola base.

I guess it could always be worse ![]()
I like both of those!
@CollegeNerd67 Carmel can definitely be cool in July. We spent several weeks each July in Pebble Beach (close to Carmel) when D2 was showing horses there. It was foggy and cold in the morning (we had on down jackets) and would warm up to the high 60’s in the afternoon before cooling down again at night.
Thank you - that’s very helpful. I was hoping no one would say it was Florida-hot ![]()
LOL - Nobody wants Florida hot in summer, especially when dressed formally. One July our neighbors (from TX) visited family in FL. They joked that they were ovewhelmed by the Florida heat/humidity…. kissed the ground when they landed in Denver. Still it can get pretty hot here, so I do understand the appeal of wedding up in the mountains.
Tell that to my friend’s daughter who got married last July in Tennessee. I think I came close to death ![]()
Maybe your D can look at this site and suggest a few things she likes to bride? Prices are much lower than $500 and the gown D got as bridesmaid was nice and under $150, I believe. The company even customized it and paid toward hemming.
The link just pulled up The general webpage for me, not the dress itself.
Just like ConMama, I could only see the website and no particular dress. If you take a screen shot of the dress you are thinking of, that would be helpful.
