Recs- By my former counselor who read it to me (his choice I never asked) was very very good, don’t know about my two other teachers.
Thought I’d post for future classes and anyone who wants to chance me …
This week is going to be so nerve racking for me
I think my daughter applied for biology with a concentration in Biochemistry (They don’t have that as a major for undergrad) and studies in Spanish. She knows she wants to go for advanced degrees and that Duke has the opportunities to work on research on projects that she might want to do then.
I applied for evolutionary anthropology on the premed track.
My son applied ED and we submitted our FAFSA and CSS Profile. He had an alumni interview on 11/21 (we live in Philly) and today we received an email requesting our W2s and tax return. The Financial Aid staff was so very nice. As previously posted, historically the ED decision is released on a Thursday (this year it should be 12/12) at 7:00 pm. Best wishes for everyone in this thread. I hope we all get the chance to meet. In the meantime, GO DUKE!
I know this is an ED thread, but has anyone else applied RD yet? I just didn’t want to apply ED anywhere but had my essays written early
My son has submitted a few EA and 2 Regular Decision applications to schools that had Merit Scholar deadlines. But for all other regular decision applications, he is waiting until after the Duke ED decision is out.
Waiting for the 12th or whenever they decide to release, is the worstttttttt. Its not the decision itself just the angst leading up to it haha. Anyone one else feeling it right now? :)) best wishes to all other applicants
Been living on CC for the past week haha
I thought decisions didn’t come out until Sunday, Dec 15th around 7 pm. Maybe I’m wrong. I’m freaking out though.
They come out “by” the 15th. Historically, they’ve been releasing on the Thursday before. @mstortss17
Y’all are gonna <3 Duke!!!
Anyone here get an IDOC request after you submitted the FAFSA and CSS? Does it mean anything as far as the chances of getting accepted? I have seen conflicting opinions on this issue. Since additional IDOC info. is not requested with the original application, some say it means they are looking at you a little closer to put a financial aide package together. In other words, you will be accepted. I don’t want to read to much into it, but I am obliviously curious.
@BuckDaddy Duke’s financial and admissions office don’t really talk to each other before releasing the decisions, since Duke’s a need-blind institution. So as far as I know it doesn’t mean much. I got the request too but hopefully it’s a good sign. Good luck!
The train of thought is that if admissions says “yes”, than they submit the decision to the financial aide office. The FA office is than tasked with putting together an aide package. So admissions is working and admitting need blind, but the FA is not going to put an aide package together for every applicant, only those that have been selected by the admissions office, hence the request for the IDOC.
I also believe that for ED applicants, if accepted, the financial aide package is included with the acceptance notice. But I might be totally wrong because internet!
Good luck to all!
At a Duke Informational meeting I attended, one of the admissions officers said that during the admissions process the admissions committee decides which students get admitted, and when they’ve decided they want to a admit a student they send their profile to the FA and they begin to put together a financial aid package so that students get their acceptance letter and their financial package all at once. That’s why I initially thought that it was a good sign but It seems like a lot of us on this page got more financial requests so now I’m not so sure.
Has anyone gotten the email explaining how to check results yet?
I’m going for economics and business administration with a prelaw track. I also hope to minor in Spanish
I received it on Nov 8th requesting all kinds of things, to include completing my 2019 business taxes to the best of my ability. (Business Owner) and it had said that it needed to be returned by Nov. 15th. Up until then, I did not see any changes on the Duke login page, but after turning in those things, the page changed to say “Your application for admission to Duke University is currently being evaluated. Students will be notified of their admissions decision no later than December 15, 2019. We will send instructions about how to check your decision in early December”. It was then on Nov 14th that my daughter received an email for an interview which she had on Nov. 17th. I believe by the way her email read, the alumni needed to have the interview done by Nov. 22nd. I think that the need-blind leads them to get all the information together so that they can do it if they move forward.
Getting an alumni interview appointment really doesn’t mean anything. Duke doesn’t require an interview and even states not having an interview will not hurt your chances of being admitted. It’s more for alumni relations and engagement.
@BuckDaddy I got the idoc request early November so there’s no way they knew who they’re ere gonna admit then. So I don’t think this really matters much
