dumb question

OK, I must have missed the explanation for the icon tag on individual threads (thumbs down, etc.) Are these new icons, that posters can add to their thread titles? (Previously, I’ve never been able to add icons to the thread title. Keyboard strokes didn’t code into pictures.)
