Have the applicants already been notified if they have been accepted into the honors program or does that come at another time?
Did everyone actually get an email telling them to check their portal? My son didn’t get an email, he just checked on his own and saw the answer.
PC is very selective with merit and tends not to give it to those that they feel are using this school as a “safety”. My son was deferred. Based on his stats/grades/ECs it was a target school.
good luck to your son in RD…does he have other choices that he likes?
Accepted with St. Joseph’s Scholarship (45% tuition) and invitation to Liberal Arts Honors program.
Went test optional route
3.88 unweighted GPA
4.22 weighted GPA
7 AP courses (which is the most challenging course load I can take)
I got defered 2.9 GPA with really bad SAT scores
@Luckyjad2024, yes he’s been accepted to Loyola Maryland, Quinnipiac and Fairfield with some pretty good scholarship $$. He’s waiting on Syracuse, Villanova and Marist. He’s my 3rd (and final) kid going through this process. It truly does all work out in the end but sometimes there is no rhythm or reason…
So others don’t have incorrect information, want to clear up that this is not true. Merit scholarships are awarded strictly using numbers: strength of curriculum score assigned to each applicant, their recalculated unweighted GPA, and test scores if they’re available (though they aren’t for 40% of applicants). We start at the top and work our way down until all merit has been awarded (appx. 27% receive an offer). Students who are above our profile and (yes, we understand) less likely to enroll are not skipped. The top tier of scholarship (Aquinas Scholarship) are all students who could pretty much go anywhere they’d like. Every single one has the maximum curriculum and has never received so much as an A-minus in high school. This level of performance continues into the second tier, as well.
My son was deferred as well.
Son accepted into CS. 20,000 merit.
He also got accepted into Umass Lowell and Umass Darmouth with full scholarships and honors college. Of course he wont go to those to save us some money
SAT 1540, GPA 4. something weighted, tons of APs. and activities.
He has his heart set on going to Northeastern so we will see it may be out of our price range. Congrats to everyone that got in and good luck to everyone still waiting.
Grateful our daughter was deferred because she is still an active candidate. This was her reach school. Test optional, class officer and captain of two sports, lots of APs but only 3.7 weighted GPA. Challenging science curriculum her junior year brought her grades down and now she’s decided she doesn’t want to be a nurse. Working to bring grades up. Hope this is helpful. Good luck everyone!
Accepted!
3.7 UW GPA
33 ACT
Demonstrated interest w/ interview
Few EC’s but very dedicated
Major: Undecided?
AP: Chem (3)
do you know when they release need based aid?
We think January 23rd or 24th but it’s not 100% definite yet.
We just got an email to check the portal tonight, the breakdown was there.
FA sent tonight. Not enough for us to consider.
We got an email tonight. My son didn’t get a scholarship for EA, but tonight he was awarded 20k/yr.
“The Committee on Scholarships at Providence College recently concluded its Regular Decision deliberations. After considering your academic performance in the context of our entire applicant pool, we are pleased to inform you that your scholarship status has changed.”
Hopefully we are not alone
@Rubix1, congrats - that’s great news! Did the email happen to say when regular decisions would be released?
@“IMPATIENT MOM” it said “in approximately two weeks”
I’m still waiting to hear back from my RD’s, but I like seeing other people’s stats to gage myself so I’ll share mine.
Accepted…
- 1320 SAT
- 4.41 GPA (I think when I applied it was like 4.37)
… no $$$
