@Steglitz90 Met a family from CA around move-in last summer. There arenât many kids from the west coast at VT, but they said it kind of worked out good for their son since he was kind of the âunicornâ in his dorm. Made friends almost instantly and they were wondering what they were going to do for the next 2 days they were in Blacksburg since their son all but said âgo away, Iâm fineâ to mom and dad. 
VTâs out of state population runs in the 30-33% range each year. Yes, arranging off campus housing comes up fast - October. If he is accepted and attends, make some time to check out the VT off campus housing site as well as the various complexes around campus (I posted some of them on page 13 I think of this thread).

@HokieCrazy @Lilmelo, etc. - Canvas is the portal that students access when they do course request, access syllabi, etc. I donât think anyone would have access to that until at least they have been accepted, possibly not until after matriculation.
I just tried signing in again and they said their is no account for me again.

There is no Clemson style hack for Virginia Tech. Your guest account login will only work on the application portal (https://vt.edu/admissions/undergraduate/apply/status.html)
All of the Virginia Tech systems will not use your guest account. When you are offered admission and you click to go forward with matriculation within the guest portal (acceptance) ⊠you will then setup your real VT ID and password. Once you create your VT ID and password that is the login that filters out to all of the Virginia Tech systems (including Canvas and everything in Hokie spa). Some take a few days to actually update across their systems - like for housing (Starrez) the login doesnât work until about 48 hours after you create your VT ID. Thatâs an important one because that is where you reserve your spot in line for dorm selection.
But ⊠the point is the guest ID will not log you into any VT systems as a hack to find out early if you got accepted. It is not used by any of those systems and the eventual real login you have to create yourself after acceptance (they donât create).

Yea definately ⊠and your login for Virginia Tech in school would be your âVT IDâ@vt.edu email address that is created after acceptance.
** Cool note about @vt.edu email addresses ⊠pick a good username not just some random one that pops up ⊠those userid/email addresses are good for life. I see a lot of people that on day of acceptance think the VT user ID isnât that important. Then on job applications etc. your putting your email address as your dumb username you chose at acceptance in high school of like rjohn2673@vt.edu ⊠make it good and personal. I have seen some terrible ones you can tell the computer just chose something random for them.
