I think that this might be helping me. If maybe it was just a bug in the systemâi.e., not all students got it, Iâd like to know so Iâm not tearing my hair out!
Hang in there everyone - donât read too much into the email from yesterday as all will become clear in 2 days. Good luck to everyone and if VT is not for you then there are many many other great colleges - everyone will end up in a good place.
We sent an email to the admissions rep for our state asking if there was a problem. He immediate responded that they tried to send an email but it bounced back for some reason.
Please Do Not panic about the email situation. Many of us believe VT sent out the email notice yesterday was only a reminder for EA applicants (regardless In State, OOS or International) and did not mean anything else. Stay calm and we will all know the results on Saturday.
I already have one son at VT. My second (and I) will be crushed (at least for a while) if he isnât able to be a Hokie too! The waiting is stressful. Good luck everyone!
My son is OOS, EA, Engineering and did receive the email, however, I am in advertising and can tell you that emails sent in a mass mailing will occasionally bounce or are rejected by your incoming ISP if they suspect spam before they even hit your mailbox. Itâs not an infallible system even if you use an outside provider. I would not read too much into it. It could just be that it was sent at a busy time and encountered a higher number of errors than usual.
oos no email received but i called and they confirmed they did send it and it did bounce back. we are having the same issue with USC, NCSU, and others where the emails are bouncing back - not all, but some
My son is OOS & received the email. Can any of the current VT parents/students speak to how the adjustment to VT is for OOS students, especially those from California? He didnât apply to any schools in CA because he was determined to go far away from home for college â but now as decisions are rolling in, he is wondering how he might fit in so far away (& in the South).
We visited VT in the summer, when campus was really calm, but my son loved the vibe & the college town atmosphere of VT. Heâs also a huge sports fan, so VTâs school spirit is very appealing. Our main concerns are: (1) housing & (2) getting to & from school from SoCal. My impression from reading posts above & from our tour, was that kids can live on campus after freshman year if they want, but most prefer to move off campus â can anyone speak to that? My older son is at a school where there is an off-campus housing scramble every fall for the following year & thatâs not fun for us to deal with from 2500 miles away. ⊠As for travel, does VT offer any sort of shuttle to nearby airports for OOS kids flying in?
Dorms are not guaranteed sophomore year and there is a lottery. But most kids will want to move into apartments just off campus and easily accessible by bus service.
Va tech to me is a very inviting atmosphere. Being in state or out of state shouldnât mean anything except to your wallet. My son knows some friends there from high school but has many more he just met. Lots of clubs and organizations to get involved and meet new people outside class and dorm.
Yes there is shuttle to roanoke airport, amtrack, and greyhound stations. Itâs about. 40 minute ride away.
@Steglitz90 Not knowing as a parent whoâs kids attend but knowing the type of student who goes. He should fit in fine. They do have a larger amount of OOS than schools in other states and it is a different vibe than a large city school.,Iâm sure as a parent itâs hard being so far away but Iâm sure he would be fine. Maybe he will meet friends he can go home with over breaks when not going home to Ca.
@HokieCrazy I think we got kids in the same boatâŠwaiting on VT, accepted Penn State, waiting on SchreyerâŠlol! Do you have UMD in there too? Crossing our fingers on all bases!! Good luck!
