In a big change to this year’s application process, UVA announced it is going supplemental essay-free for all first-year applicants, except those who apply to the School of Nursing.
I have an edit for you! The UVA School of Nursing has retained a supplemental essay.
Thank you for highlighting this again, @UVADeanJ! I did mention this in my message.
Does anyone know what the admissions rate for ED vs EA was last year? If you specifically know for out of state students, that is even more helpful. My daughter is trying to decide between ED & EA.
All of the information you want is here: https://uvaapplication.blogspot.com
UVA is incredibly transparent with this information.
Thank you, this is very helpful. The only info that I couldn’t find was out of state ED rate for kinesiology, but I’m guessing maybe they don’t release that info?
Correct. They release cumulative information, nothing by school or major.
DD likely applying ED, which is a bit unexpected, but what she has decided. Trying to assess her chances, as I feel she is on the border. GPA is 3.78 w / 4.27 uw. 1460 SAT. NMSF. Interested in Engineering. Taking Calc BC and Physics II as a senior. Will have 8 APs and 3 DEs by end of senior year. Attends a rigorous magnet school that does not rank. Usual extracurriculars - part-time job, varsity athlete, 180+ hours of volunteering, etc. Anyone have some input?
In state or out of state? Rural or urban? Where does she stand in her class? They will know or be able to figure it out by comparing her to other applicants, particularly in state.
My daughter wants to apply ED to The School of Architecture. Does anyone know if it’s harder to get into The School of Architecture than the College of Arts and Sciences for OOS?
They used to publish statistics for each school. Not sure if they still do but architecture was significantly easier admission than CLAS.
In state. Richmond area.
Hello from admission! Admission rates by school of entry are on this page. The only areas that are more selective are Nursing and Kinesiology. The College, Engineering, and Architecture are all hovering in the same place.
Thank you!
Is the admit rate roughly the same for OOS students in EA and RD rounds or is there a significant advantage to applying EA?
The OOS EA admission rate is 13%, compared with 9% RD. I’m not sure we can conclude that means there’s an advantage, as it could relate to the strength of the pool in each round or some other confounding factor.
