So we were almost better off applying regular decision?
@HokieCrazy It sounds like VT was your sonās top choice. I have definitely heard of instances where your childās guidance counselor can call your admissions rep to find out what happened. Often they will say they assumed that such a high stats kid was only applying as a safety school. If your son & counselor reply that VT is indeed his top school they may very well offer him admission. According to my sonās counselor It has happened before (although it wasnāt VT when his counselor told us the story)
Good luck and hopefully he ends up where he is meant to be!
My S was accepted (his stats are on decision only thread for those interested). OOS. BS Chemistry. He did receive a provost achievement scholarship (small at $3k per year) in the financial aid link. No honors ā I donāt think he applied?
@fatlseason I think there is a note explaining that means your award is not ready yet. Our numbers were filled in. Look for the footnote.
Waitlisted- Engineering OOS
SAT- 1490 (690 English and 800 math)
8 APs
GPA: 4.47
Rank: 3/158
lots of extracurriculars, team captain of sports, and other leadership
I was sort of surprised because VA tech was one of my safety schools but I was still very seriously considering it. Do you think it was just super competitive this year or do you think itās true that they sometimes donāt accept people who might think of it as a safety?
I doubt it. My guess is the wait-list numbers will be even higher from RD (as a %). I mean with the difference in 2 weeks, do you think a lot of people applied RD? My guess is that they filled quite a few people from ED, because those applicants are committed and helps them determine their class size.
Thank you for this suggestion. Iād classify VT as my sonās #1 ārealisticā school, so it was the most likely school for him to attend. He has Vanderbilt and WashU on his list, but we have very little confidence that heāll get into those. So, heād be down to Penn State, Clemson, and VT, where VT would clearly be his top choice. I told my son to talk to his guidance counselor on Monday, as it certainly canāt hurt to have them reach out on his behalf. << Certainly better than the irate parent/alumni >>
Iām hoping they put a bunch on waitlist to avoid criticism this year and we see action off waitlist in month or so.

@7soccer7 may I ask where do you see the merit letter ? Is it on the same decision page or you need to login to any financial portal ?
One can only hope. Was your child wait-listed, as well?
I got accepted with lower stats (22 act, 3.3 GPA) for business. I received a grant of $200, will more financial aid information come in the following weeks?
SKOKIES!! i got in!
She was accepted Business and honors college. I think it will now be between VT and Georgia as to which she picks.
@NJdadEngineer ā My Sās scholarship was listed under āView Financial Award Informationā ā this link was found in the column to the right of acceptance info.
Wow, your stats are even higher than my son who thought it would also be a safety. He also got waitlisted. Interestingly, 2 if his friends got in ED with lower stats.
