For some reason, earworms don’t stick to me today… Glad that I can read every post without the fear of subjecting myself to torture.
Question…isn’t it “mares eat oats”? (And does eat oats, and little lambs eat ivvvvv-y)
Oh lord. It’s now on replay…
Yes, shellz, that’s absolutely right. I had to read through several posts before I figured out what song everyone was talking about.
Usually, whatever song I’ve been singing along to on the radio in the car every morning is the one that’s on replay in my head.
One that nearly drove me around the bend a couple of years ago was the Captain And Tennille version of Muskrat Love (The original version by America was bad enough). It played in my head throughout the day, every day, for a solid week. I get earworms frequently, but usually it’s a song I like a lot, so I don’t mind them much.
Blondie’s Heart of Glass has ear worm qualities.
To finish the song, shellz…
a kid’ll eat ivy too, wouldn’t youuuuu???
I still sing that to my kids . . . along with, “Yes! We have no bananas. We have no bananas today . . .”
That Gautier song a couple years ago “Somebody That I used to KNow” Couldn’t get it out of my head for months. I’m t aking such a risk even mentioning it now.
My go-to earworm eraser is “I Wanna Be Sedated”. It doesn’t stick, but it gets rid of the unwanted song, usually.
Oops . . . just reading the news over coffee and the photo from the country music thingy last night has my brain on, “haters gonna hate hate hate hate hate . . . .”
Reading through these comments makes every song swim through my head…except the Paul Simon song , which I have never heard. Maybe because I don’t listen to the radio …
My husband has been singing “The sun comes up, the sun goes down” (just those words, none other) to me for a week. I thought he made it up, but a couple of days ago a commercial with it came on. Now he’s planted it in my head too.
Re: Mairzy Doats - Last week I was doing passive range-of-motion with my elderly Mom, and sang the chorus to count down holding the stretches. Found what must have been the original recording on YouTube, and just kept repeating that. Boy did the song stick with me.
One of the morning shows is doing a vignette from “on the Town”, and they are singing , as an entree into the segment, “New York, New York; The Bronx is up and the Battery’s down… New York, New York…, its a wonderful town!” Now ringing in my head…
This morning’s earworm which I actually don’t mind is Vance Joy’s ‘Riptide’ - it’s catchy and not annoying
*And it’s something quite peculiar
Something shimmering and white
Leads you here despite your destination
Under the Milky Way tonight
*
And also, since the Flight to Mars fundraiser is coming up next weekend. 13th yr, setlist has not varied appreciably.
- Doctor, Doctor, please
Oh the mess I’m in.*
. . . closest thing to Michelle Pfeiffer that you’ve ever see . . . :-"
