We’ve lost power.
I feel worse for the poor bride and groom!
Hoping your power comes on quickly!!
My nephew is supposed to fly back to college, stopping off at his dear Aunt Fang’s house, tomorrow. I’m guessing not a lot of flights are taking off from Newark tomorrow morning?
@gearmom, I live outside of Ocean City NJ and surfers love the waves in any nor’easter and hurricane remnants . The snow and ice don’t deter them at all
@NEPatsGirl , I grew up on the Cape and I am really shocked at some of the flooding videos I am seeing coming from friends in Sandwich, Barnstable, Ptown as well as all the images from Marshfield , Scituate and the Seaport area of Boston.
We have a lot of snow here and while we normally experience heavy coastal flooding here in such storms, we mostly got pounded with heavy snow and wind
It’s 62 because a few years ago, I got fed up with the oil bill. But it really depends on a slow start to winter, not like this year.
And now the 40+ year old boiler needs replacing. Any opinions? Wait til April-May for a gas conversion or stick with oil? One issue is steam radiators.
Really starting to howl here now!
@gearmom Hope your power returns soon.
@gearmom are you in MA? Hope power comes on soon.
We had to cancel our weekend trip to Fort Myers from Newark. JetBlue could not get us down there until Monday, and cannot book us out of LaGuardia (also many cancelled flights), so they are refunding our money. All of their non-cancelled flights are full for the next three days. I was on hold for one hour after trying for several hours and being cut off because the queue was so long. The lady I finally spoke to said there is another storm brewing next week. Yay. I have to say that the JetBlue people, once you get them on the phone, are very nice in comparison to other airlines.
My kiddo is in NYC and scheduled to fly home out of Newark on Saturday. I wonder if flights will be back to normal (or overbooked) by Saturday a.m.
@Madison85 If your kid has a confirmed seat for a Sat. flight, it will probably be fine. It’s just that there is no capacity to rebook all the people whose flights have been cancelled today and tomorrow.

WEATHER WARNING
Southerners are urged not to travel unless absolutely necessary.
Northerners, you will need your big coat.
According to my mom it’s freezing in S Fla so you’re not missing much. Even a wind chill advisory tonight!
D2 had to go to work today. She’s hardly an essential worker but can at least take the subway. I don’t envy her the frosty blocks of walking.
She’s supposed to fly out of Newark Friday early evening. Crossing my fingers that her flight is not cancelled and she makes it OK.
I will cross my fingers for all the travelers…because I know you all did for my DS.
Hoping everyone gets where they need to be.
Daughter had to walk to work today, 5 pm ish in Boston. 15 minute walk to the hospital, was walking at times in the street, or in snow to her knees. I was on the phone with her and I got a play by play on stupid drivers, one resulting in a crash which I heard. Hope you all keep power and stay warm.
The wind is still blowing hard. Our area got about 12" of snow. We are expecting an oil delivery tomorrow, so we will have to get up early to clear a path to the fill pipe.
@CottonTales I heard on the news today that the police would take essential workers (like doctors and nurses) to Work.
@lookingforward Oh, man, could I write you a book on that one!
Long story short: despite having a gas hookup, we still have our ancient boiler (steam radiators), which probably dates to the 50s. Built like a rock. You should start another thread about it.
I haven’t really been able to tell what’s going on outside since the late afternoon, because it was a white out and then dark, but I can hear the wind roaring. I’m sitting 4 feet away from a window, and I can feel the draft.
I was thinking of turning up the heat to something outrageously high, like 64, in case we lose power, but on the other hand we now have a bit under a half tank of oil and a delivery scheduled for the 12th. So it’s at 60. Usual range is 60-62.
I think I’m going to put on my down parka and boots with ice cleats and go outside. The dog will enjoy it, anyway. ![]()
Ha! I thought I was the only one who keeps the house that cold. You get used to it.
I have the thermostat set for 65 during the day and 59 when sleeping. BRRR!
