East Coast snowicane

I think it’s getting windier!

I just spent an hour and half digging out us and a few of the neighbors.

At one point, my son came by on the fire truck; 5 or 6 guys easily finished our driveway.

I cannot imagine schools opening-- getting fleets of buses cleared out in time for the morning. Keeping an eye on the school closings.

The snow just stopped here, too, but…

My son’s school district just closed for tomorrow, too!

We live in Suffolk County, but I work in a school district in Nassau County, so I am waiting to hear what my own superintendent of schools will decide. I am betting on a delayed opening. I think Suffolk had a worse storm experience than Nassau. Of course, that means I have to drive on the treacherous hilly and winding roads around my home on a north shore peninsula in Suffolk in order to get to my job in Nassau!

Snow almost up to my knees in the driveway. I’ll do our balcony, porch and steps, path to propane (our company puts little smiley faces on the invoices). @NEPatsGirl I totally get it about the driveway, had to scramble for someone here when our landscaper told me we live too far out for him to come with his plow after signing a contract for the season. I’m sorry, I mean “our former landscaper.”

We were planning to go to Florida today for a 4-day visit with my 88-year-old father (Newark to Fort Myers). We’ve now had two flights canceled on us (the original, plus the free rebooking for tomorrow), so I don’t know when we’ll get there. We may be only be down in FL for 24 hours at this rate. This is the only long weekend DH and I can really have before the semester starts. I’m really frustrated, but there is, of course, no point to fretting. I don’t understand why our flight tomorrow a.m. has been cancelled, unless it’s because they can’t get the equipment back up here.

DS was booked on a flight tomorrow to Charleston. AA cancelled just one leg of his flight. I must have spent 2 hours on hold to get through to a live person who could tell me the refund/ rebooking options

D is stuck in the storm zone. For you northeasterners, has your local news said anything about when airports may resume ‘normal’ operations. She is now booked for Friday evening.

" I don’t understand why our flight tomorrow a.m. has been cancelled, unless it’s because they can’t get the equipment back up here."

That’s probably the reason. Scheduling of equipment in and out is so interconnected so the planes that were scheduled to fly out in the morning would have been flying in tonight, which obviously isn’t happening.

@gearmom, no way would a teen shovel my driveway, its very long and then turns into a private road, the second half (closest to me) dirt then turning paved. The town comes to the point where the pavement ends. Most of my life I owned a Jeep 4X4 but they just got out of my price range so, much to my dismay lol, I’ve resorted to a sedan for the past few years. Better gas mileage and very comfortable but that doesn’t get me out in the snowstorms or on to the beach.

Anyways, its a moot point! No snow for the lower Cape this storm so far. It might change over now but then we’re still talking an inch or two so no problem with that. I did lose my power for about 2.5 hours, long enough for my heat to dip to 63 and make me think about packing a bag and going to a friends house but it has since come back on so I’ll sit tight. Lots of roads severe flooding. I’m in a very rural area with winding roads and we dont see cruisers very often but two just screamed down the road here so that’s very concerning.

Hope everyone else is doing okay.

There are people surfing in RI today… I’m just saying.

Scheduled to leave EWR to SFO tomorrow evening. I am planning to have a car pick me up 4 1/2 hours before departure. Hope the crowds and delays won’t be bad by 6PM. Just looked at the flight, not one empty seat on a B777.

I am so grateful my kid got back to Phoenix today. So grateful.

The schools in my little town have already cancelled for tomorrow. It’s so windy outside…I just can’t imagine how school will start with all this blowing snow. It sounds like a jet engine in this house!

Umm, my heat is set at 62.

My DS#2 is supposed to fly to NYC for a wedding this weekend (not sure when his flight is scheduled) are the airports open?

^yeah well, I spent 30 years with my heat on 62 and decided a couple years ago that I’m too damn old and I work too damn hard to be cold (and old) in my own house, so I now gladly pay for the luxury of warmth at 68 degrees lol. But, I don’t heat my bedroom at all (separate electric) and, although I normally have to put it on after a few 10 degree days, its still off this year and Lord knows its been chilly.

@jym626

When is he flying? If it’s tomorrow…especially morning…I’d say…he needs to check his carrier.

I have no idea when his flight is. Waiting to hear…

I set mine at 62-63. It’s amazing how used to it you get and then other places seem way too warm.

“There are people surfing in RI today… I’m just saying.”
Same in northern New England. They’re always out in storms so they can get the big waves. Hearty folks.

I wonder if they’re surfing at Nauset Beach…I’m thinking it might be too rough but there’s always some crazies around. Good for them!

School cancelled in Savannah tomorrow, due to dropping temps and everything that started melting today, refreezing.

Hope everyone is staying warm up north.
