Ed mistake

So I applied to Duke via early decision and then they required me to send in my first-quarter grades. Well my counselor did that the other day by uploading my report card to the optional grade report section. I got my report card today and on it there was a comment that said “I wish you luck on your ED to Duke!”

Now all of the other colleges that I apply to will see this comment right? Will this jeopardize my chances at other top schools? Is there anyway to fix this problem?!

Depends on how the grades were uploaded. If your counselor loaded in the grades and only the grades, nothing else may show up. If it’s the entire report card with the comment embedded (which seems odd), then they may see it. In either case, I don’t think it matters much. Even if (big if) other schools saw you applied ED to Duke, they don’t know what happened and they do know that you are still applying RD to them so obviously you haven’t decided on Duke (or Duke didn’t choose you). No harm, no foul.

Stop by the counselor’s office and ask. Explain that you are worried about how other schools will react when they see that comment.

I’d be concerned if you’re applying anywhere EA. Otherwise, mostly agree with M’s Mom about it being no harm, no foul for RD admission, UNLESS Duke can defer people to the RD round.

There have been other threads with this very question

My recollection is that people checked with Colleges, and were told that since this is not in the student’s control they wouldn’t hold it against the student.

Also, many colleges download the grades into their own format (so that the admissions officer may not even see your transcript, with the Duke comment).

My only real concern would be if you wrote something on an application that would be inconsistent with your having applied to Duke ED (to give a silly example, if you had written to a school that you would never ever want to go to school in the South). Otherwise, speak to your GC to see if it can be corrected, but don’t worry about it.
