No. That’s not “rhyming” so much as it is “cheating”. ;)

And it’s all good, busdriver… I definitely used poetic license in imbuing the limerick with my own opinions about political dialogue. :)

Okay, aibarr, got it. But political dialogue is good, because one can only spend so much time talking about college applications…or our little precious…or Glee (though I have spent plenty of time on all of those).

jym, it’s hard to decide which of yours is funniest. Those are all really great. You have a talent for that (though I don’t know how much use it is going to be for you)! Yes, get back to work. I too have so much work, I’m avoiding it, it’s no fun whatsoever.

I have had several people send me pms telling me that although they haven’t posted often (or even at all), they enjoyed lurking in the political forums.

There once was a thread in the forum
That had varying levels of decorum
Some liked to post there a lot,
Other? I should say Not!
Why complain rather than ignor’em?

Jeez, I can’t believe I missed the circumcision thread! Almost as big a gap in CC literacy as…never having read about Andison?:D

Oh, wow, now I’m showing my obvious ignorance…if everybody knows about Andison except for me. To google it, I see genealogy, totem poles, misspellings…doctors, facebook. I guess I’ll just have to stay ignorant.

I don’t know about Andison, either. :(

Andi was the poster and her son (known as Andison) had the unfortunate experience of not getting into any of his schools- even though he was very well qualified. Andi was very generous in posting about the entire heartbreaking experience, how her son and family regrouped and what he did for a gap year. It all had a happy ending. The thread was filled with important lessons on the need for true safety schools and what a crapshoot the whole process can be.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parents-forum/192395-no-acceptances-one-kids-story-year-later.html?highlight=Andi

Thanks for linking that. I will have to read it. :D

It’s true. Students need safety schools because the college admissions process is a crapshoot.

Count me among those who will miss the e&p forum. Yes, there were a few confrontational posters but on the whole I enjoyed the give-and-take of a group from various political viewpoints with one unifying core value–our interest/respect for education. Isn’t that what brought us to CC in the first place?

I didn’t venture into the circumcision thread–I had no skin in that game (haha) At times the e&p forum was a shark infested body of water, but that’s when the savvy among us stayed on the beach ;)

I’m enjoying the limericks.

People had me convinced that my S was going to be the next Andison. Which was why I made him apply to 11 colleges. :D

Well, that and the fact that we needed virtually full FA.

It was fun while it lasted.

I think I started posting on CC sometime in 2003. Seven years is a long time to post on a board and for a board to even exist.

Razorsharp,

I tried to send you a pm, but you don’t accept them. I sent you a link via email, if interested in another message board.

Razorsharp-

There should be a special forum fro us oldie goldies who have been around since the days of the old forum (called the “college discussion classic”, with link at the bottom of the forum page). Do you remember the initial resistance posters voiced to the change to this new forum?? LOL, that old forum seems now, looking back, so antiquated, LOL. We could post over there, reminisce about classic threads like the urban moundbuilders thread and the one about the #2 pencils, and discuss our advancing age, sleep problems and other physical ailments, and complain about the young whipper-snappers. Sounds like fun.

Anonymous,

You know they say that truth is stranger than fiction. :D

So does that mean the Parent Cafe will have the occasional political thread or two as it was before the E & P was initiated?

Or is anything political strictly off limits in any discussion forum?

I was caught off guard because there wasn’t anything particularly alarming going on in there at the time - unless I missed something or maybe excessive punning is offensive. There have been times when I wouldn’t have been surprised - but now I’ve forgotten what they were. I guess that’s why posting there never bothered me - I don’t remember what goes on from day to day!

I believe all political discussions now violate TOS unless they relate to college somehow–I noticed a political thread on another forum was closed, and this was stated by the moderator.

I think it will be a zero tolerance for political discussion, as Hunt said.

As Tyler Durden would say
