Election Day wishes

Out of curiosity, did anyone personally experience or knew neighbors who experienced getting misdirected to the wrong election district table to sign in to pick up their ballot?

At least 11 people from my building were misdirected to the table I worked at even though I notified the information desk twice and notified the correct table that my building was supposed to be voting at their table, not mine. Especially considering I signed in and picked up my ballot at that correct table at the very beginning of the day when polls opened at 6 am.

Worse, most of the information desk personnel initially tried to blame it on my neighbors until I brought over one of my neighbors who pointed to the information clerks who misdirected him to my table. Worse, the only information clerk who suspected she was the one who misdirected them because she was new and was apologetic wasn’t the one who misdirected them. :frowning:

Fortunately, I was able to direct them to the correct table. However, it played a part in the long lines my table had in the morning and wasted my neighbors’ time waiting on line at my table before finding they were sent to the wrong table.

I am happy that football, volleyball, hockey, and basketball will now be the primary topics of conversation again!

And if you didn’t like the election results you can now legally get stoned for recreation in California.

One poor fellow went to a polling place in the next town to cast his vote. They looked him up there and told him that he had to drive 5 miles to the next town’s municipal garage which is where I was working. But when he arrived, we eventually realized that we had to send him to a different municipal garage 10 miles away. I wonder if he finally got to vote last night?

Our town is in the shape of a donut and it surrounds a city. Don’t ask me how that came about as small town politics can be very confusing.

I also worked the polls…5 am to 9 pm. 87% voter turnout in our town! Very proud of that number!

Glad I am a jets fan, always a good distraction. The team owner supported the winner of the election and tweeted about how the election is over, we have to come together, etc, and the responding tweets were all what a crappy job he did as owner, now that the election is over maybe he can spend money on a good qb, and tweets I cannot even rewrite to CC standards lol, makes me proud to be a Jets fan, Democrat or Republican, good times or bad, can count on them to be vocal and funny.

Well, I’ve been reminding my college-senior daughter that it is still illegal under federal law, and if her job-search efforts over the next several years will include the feds, it is probably still not a good idea.

( I’m sure she will be taking that advice to heart. )

Poor fellow. I hope he was able to find the correct voting site to exercise his voting right.

We had a great turnout as well.

However, due to the volume of voided and affidavit ballots and some issues with getting tallies from the scanning machines at the end of the night, we didn’t leave until ~10:45 pm.

@sylvan8798 – I am sorry your daughter is terrified. Yes, it is hard to explain to children how racism/ nativism/ antisemitism/ sexism can seem to triumph. I think the best you can do is to help give your child a sense of agency that she can make a difference in the world by doing her part to be a kind and caring neighbor to others, and an active citizen, and to discuss with her our government’s system of checks and balances. Each time there is an election, usually neither the winner’s supporters’ most extreme dreams nor their opponents’ most extreme fears come to pass. The USA has functioned as a constitutional democracy for over 200 years. The image of America as a “shining city on a hill” is a bipartisan belief (e.g., included in speeches by both John F. Kennedy and Ronald Reagan).

I can’t believe how much I wish Reagan (whom I very much disliked at the time) had been in this race.

The day after is a positive day for stock market

5am to 10pm in NY. I woke up at 3:30am to get ready.

We’re gone by 9:30pm. No problems with ballots or machines.

You can be sure I did not pass up the text opportunity to D2 to thank her for this, and to tease her that I was ready to move to CA. (Of course, MA did the same thing, and D1 lives there, but I prefer the CA weather more).

I had an appt. with one of my surgeons this morning, and he noticed I was distraught in the exam room as he entered and asked if I was OK (of course I wasn’t), but I did tell him how proud I was that each of my Ds now lived in a state where recreational marijuana is legalized. Then it occurred to me that many of his patients have breast cancer and some probably use medicinal pot (legal here in IL) so I asked him about it. He (and his nurse who were in the room) told me they’d talked about it several times already and they both believe it should be made available to pretty much any consenting adult, but particularly those who get benefits from the medicinal use. Problem with IL (and I wish they’d put it on the ballot) is that the medical uses are very few, so there are lots of people who could benefit from it medically, but whose issues aren’t on the medical list… yet.

You could be bicoastal, @teriwtt.

Yup! Question is, which state do I register to vote in???

Both?! Might as well live up to the conspiracy theory.

I feel thankful that once again this republic will see a peaceful transfer of power, despite the rancor of the campaign. There were no widespread reports of voting irregularities. Millions of people lined up peacefully to vote their choices.

You mean it wasn’t rigged? :open_mouth:

what about this #Calexit movement? is this something that could actually work or does it stand no chance?

@wien2nc:
I think that one was settled by the Civil war…Jimmy Breslin once ran for mayor of NYC on the platform of seperating it from NY State and making NYC the 51st state, that had more chance then #calexit lol

Less than zero. There has been a state of Jefferson movement trying to have the northern most counties of California secede from the rest. It has been in existence for decades and has gone no further than a few billboards along the roads.
