Eli Whitney Students Program 2009

Okay. That was before you got the letter, but after the call for your rec…

Nothing in the mail for me today either.

When I spoke to the office today, they told me that they were still in the process of determining the other interviewees; but they should have it all figured out in a couple of weeks. So those who have not been rejected yet are probably right on the cusp of interview or rejection.

Woohoo! No news is good news! STILL IN THE GAME, BABY!!!

No news here… though, I could imagine getting a rejection pretty soon.

No mail today from Yale… got mail from Columbia GS, though… with my financial aid offer… which they need to hear back about in 3 weeks…

So lets see, 3 weeks from now will be May 11th, and I may not even hear about my Yale interview or rejection this week and wouldn’t get a decision until possibly June should it come to an interview…

This math problem is not coming out right. :/

Can you defer enrollment?

No letter, no call. I wonder if you can defer enrollment too… I’m probably going to have to defer no matter where I go (gotta save up money).

Can’t defer to another semester… need to get this show on the road, ya know? I might be able to halt a bit, possibly. I’m going to talk to both GS and EWSP tomorrow and see if I can’t figure out where I stand on the time frame thing.

That’s right, I’m goin’ in.

Let us know what you find out pressurewave :)

You’ll get a full report :D

Alright, so I just spoke to everyone involved - at Yale they’re still in the process of looking at everyone’s material and the decisions on rejection/interview will be out sometime in the next few weeks. That is exactly what I was told. This is basically what you guys have heard, those that have called.

Coincidentally, two rather interesting notes:

1.) They’ve been on this forum (that was the first question she asked when I asked about the time-frame on the decision, if I was participating in this discussion).

2.) I am now officially incredibly skeptical of claims by people on here of having been asked for an interview at this point. I’m not necessarily saying people are being disingenuous, but I’m skeptical… I’ll leave it at that. No offense to anyone that actually may have had a interview scheduled. Everyone else, though, just cool down and no worries for the meantime - they’ll get the stuff out to us as they can. All the posts about interviews got us all a bit heated, I think… the reality, it seems, is that it may still be a while.

Luckily, for anyone curious, I think other schools are willing to allow you to postpone making your decision right away… so that may help a few of you guys - give them a call and tell them what’s up. The fact that you got into another school isn’t going to be a big deal to them, they know we’re likely to be accepted at a lot of places and will have to reason it all out. The wonderful thing about dealing with these Ivy League schools thus far, for me, has been just how darned reasonable they all are when you call in. In all seriousness, they understand, I think, what sort of stress this decision puts on people and are understanding when you call.

All in all, not much more info than we already had, but I feel a lot more relaxed and less slammed with pressure at this point. Ironic, considering my name, eh?

The most interesting part of that is that they’ve been browsing here. I think that’s awesome, I wish they’d pop in and say hi and participate… but no doubt they’re all extremely busy.

I know over on the Hopkins board they have an official representative of the school posting and answering questions and interacting with everyone, which I think is a really cool idea… to have sort of an official e-representative of the school interacting with folks online.

You can definitely defer GS enrollment. There’s a checklist where they ask why you’re deferring and one of the boxes is “Saving Money.”

hahaha, hellojan, that’s great!

Yeah, I was just concerned because I didn’t want to lose out on any opportunities… you know how it goes, the worst fear sort of thing - I wait around for months for one school, only to find out they aren’t going to accept me, and then have missed out on opportunities at another school as a result. Good to know they’re all reasonable about this stuff, though.

"less slammed with pressure at this point. "

tee hee, that was amusing.

:)

thanks for all the info and yay, sounds like things are moving in the right direction! this wait is driving my wife nuts (are we moving, aren’t we moving, are we moving, aren’t we moving), but all is well.

Pressurwave, most interesting insights my friend. I was suspect of the “interviews” to begin with. Nothing like cutting through the b.s.
Happy to hear deferment or/and delaying is possible for those that need to.
Guess it’s hurry up and wait. So how about a little humor meanwhile…teeheehee.

funny. I am stoked about this all. I sort of did not give back the response letter for one of my top choices. I might just give the response, tho… Funny how we are all struggling with the same issues. I love Wellesley tho and would certainly not mind going there =)

absurd…

no mail in california.
