I definitely will do that! Whoop, whoop!

New Haven Food

If you’re looking for something quick and yummy, Claire’s Cornucopia is amazing. They have a Lithuanian coffee cake that’s to die for. They have sandwiches, pastas, burritos, salads, etc. It’s all vegetarian (or vegan, not sure which). I’m a vegetarian, but even my carnivorous family raves about it.

Also, check out Clark’s. It’s this super stereotypical diner experience. Excellent french fries and peach milk shakes.

Like all of you I am still waiting to hear from a few schools (May 15th deadline) as well as Yale, but so far I have gotten into Cal, Vanderbilt, UW-Madison and UM-Ann Arbor. Right now I am tossing around Cal and Vanderbilt. Of those two which would you choose and why?

So far I have been rejected from College of W&M and UCLA (odd).

Obviously Yale is my ultimate dream school and would trump any other school if I get into the EWSP.

icecream, I’d say the Vanderbilt v. Cal is a pretty gigantically divided decision. Which is closer? Do you see yourself being happy in Tennessee? How about at Cal? What are you studying?

UofM merits consideration next to the schools you mentioned, I think, depending on your course of study, etc.

cal… my first denial. boohoo.

Yes I know the difference between these schools is huge and that is what is making the choice even harder. I would enjoy the Bay Area (I would LOVE Stanford) and that is what is drawing me towards Cal.

On the other hand I know that Vandy is a smaller school then these big state schools and I would truly thrive best in a small (< 15) class environment were I would be able to engage in thought provoking discussions. It might just come down to the financial aid, as I would be an out of state student at all of these schools. There is just some small part of me that is worried that Vandy is an overpriced joke. Does anyone else have this feeling?

I want to be in small classes and surrounded by intelligent students who are just as driven to learn as I am. Hello, Yale I’m looking in your general direction. Still on the list is U Chicago, Brown, Stanford, Johns Hopkins, Duke, Cornell, Northwestern and Yale and I will hear from most of those on or before May 15th. My intention is to study economics and apply to law school or graduate study in econ. I am not sure which route I want to go yet.

Any help or opinions on this matter would be greatly appreciated. I know that this is my choice and mine to make, but I really want an outside opinion on these schools. Thank you for your post pressurewave!

Maybe you could ask people in the forums for said schools?

I thought about it, but Vandy people are going to say go to Vandy and Cal people are going to say go to Cal. I was looking for fellow students who were more neutral on the subject.

Hallo Eli Whitney Programm.

Ich will um Universit

Yeah. Great Point!

There might be a non-traditional transfer forum? There might also be a what do you think about x forum too!!!

You can’t go wrong with education! Any of them would be great!

MIKEL, what in the world? I don’t speak German. Though, I would love to study German!

What major would you pursue if you were an Eli Whitney Student Program?

geez, i’d be super STOKED to get into stanford, but, well, 1% admit rate, so i’m not holding my breath. hopefully they like my essay answers and ignore my gpa/SAT scores. and, hopefully, my family name scores some points. :)

lol…

To Translate For Everyone He Said:

"Hello Eli Whitney Program.

I want to University of Phoenix Online, Lost, Kaplan University, and Oxford are aware of Canada online.

Only makes apt.

Do you think that it would be better for these things elsewhere to speak?"

I am waiting for hopkins too. But yeah a bad transfer % too. hehe. As far as cal vs vandy. Where are you from? That could make a BIG diff. I visited my best friend at Vandy and my god, it is JUST a school, nothing around it worthwhile for 123098123 miles. But I am from Northern VA and I apparently was expecting too much.
Cal, I got in too, it sucks up there tho because it filthy and grungy, but if you like that type of serious COLLEGE living then maybe that is the place for you, it reminds me of this eclectic (and rarely visited by me) part of d.c. called adams morgan. Lots of hippies and stoners. but the money from cal is seriously enticing. Free tuition plus an extra 13K is tempting.
I got free tuition at Wellesley too but yeah…cost of living hello! But the cross enrollment at MIT and other great schools, plus borrowed harvard profs could be worth it…but not if I am left homeless.
I would totally consider what you like in life. If you LOVE trying new things and lovea sort of cozy/jumbly lifestyle Cal may be the place for you, and I am sure you will HATE Vandy for its new and ungenuine feel. But if you like it clean, comfortably predictable, and service with a smile, then I think Vandy will be a better fit.

But yeah I was looking at the course sizes at cal and mamma mia… 30 is the smallest it gets in my major. Plus each counselor is overloaded with 123098 students and LINES LINES LINES to get anything administrative done. Cal is essentially a business until you get to grad school.
I know I am going to get reamed for my extreme opinions… oh well tho. They are my opinions =P

No! Thank you! Okay I think it is going to be Vandy for now. It is just collegeboard.com gives them a high (~50%) transfer acceptance rate and I am scared Vandy does not have the prestige as Cal or some of the other schools I have applied to.

I really want small class sizes at a national university so I think it is going to be Vandy then as long as none of you tell me that when I tell people I transferred to Vandy they will not snicker behind my back.

snicker snicker. Just jokes. Seriously tho, both are exceptional institutions. You are lucky that u are able to pay for stuff. Thats one good thing too about Vandy, Cost of living is significantly lower than in Berkeley. Man o man is it expensive there.

I have a friend who attended Vanderbilt, and wrangled his time there into an MFA at Virginia. I think Vanderbilt isn’t a bad choice at all.

Coincidentally, UofM/Ann Arbor cost of living is pretty good, too, though that’s probably not what you’re imagining with the class-size issue.

I just got an interview.

awesome, deusex! congrats!

Thanks! I am very excited!
