Hi everyone, new here but have been reading your posts every now and then. I was just a little confused about something. I was under the impression that if Yale dosen’t want you, they send a rejection letter; if Yale does want you for sure they send you an acceptance letter; and if they were on the fence about whether or not they wanted you, then they’d call you for an interview to meet you and get more info. Any thoughts?

from my understanding, they meet with everyone, regardless. I dunno if 600 words, transcripts, etc is enough to make such a decision.

I’ve landed an interview. They called this morning about trying to get me in today or tomorrow (so much for advanced notice, huh?). But seeing as how I live in DC and its a 5 hour drive, this is hardly an impossibility.

Some of you must certainly be left-coasters, etc? Flying all of the way out to CT for a quick interview that is tied to a very small shot at entrance to a very expensive school seems pretty impractical (aka “Interviews Yale… really??”). I flew out to CA when I got waitlisted at Stanford to meet with the adcoms and let them know how ‘serious’ I was about the process - and it was a very expensive way to enjoy my fruitless time on their waitlist.

Anyone know how many people they have historically interviewed vs. admitted?

^ (In last year’s thread, the hearsay was 15 interviews vs. 4 admits. Legit?)

I thought they were scheduling the interviews on different days - so unless they have changed their procedure - I think it would be impossible to know last year how many got interviews.

Bait &Switch, these were my thoughts too. I live in AZ and it would very expensive to fly to CT for a “quick” interview. I’m sure that the admin at Yale have thought of this and I’m sure that they take it into consideration. That’s why I was questioning earlier if they interview everyone that they may want to admit. Guess we’ll just have wait and see for most of us. Good luck on your interview!

Thanks - all I hope to do is to represent myself well, and in honest light. Other than that… they are the gatekeepers, and it’s quite frankly up to them to decide what they want to do.

I applied to Columbia GS = Rejected, Brown RUE = Wait Listed, and Yale Eli Whitney = Silence. Additionally I applied to Yale Summer Session, just to see how I would perform at one of these schools in the unlikely event that I am admitted. Does anyone know how much longer I may be waiting for mail from Yale and what does “Waiting List” REALLY mean for Brown this year? This is my first post and I just want to get a feel concerning the likelihood of admission to either Brown or Yale in the long run. How many applicants apply to these programs? How many are accepted? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yale accepted 2 out of 29 applicants last year Burgh Boy. The program is very competitive. I really hope you will get in. To me, this is like one of my last shots in life. I so much need to get in dude. I am not sure if I will though as a lot of other people in this forum are just as good as me or even probably better in life experiences and academic history. Good luck to you dude

has anyone gone for their interview yet? i was just wondering what to expect?..

This is frustrating, no letter and no call yet! I left Marianne a message two days ago letting her that I need to know asap if I have an interview because I have to travel for work… no call back!

no letter, no call. making plans for another school but willing to put on the brakes if something comes up.

on and re: left-coast. aye, i’m on this side of the country, but have no plans to travel if granted an interview. had the dough set aside to make the trip till my dog decided to eat a pound of flour, got bloat, and had to spend the night at the ER vet. silly dog.

anyhow, i was told that phone interviews are just as good and shouldn’t effect our chances. i’m strong on the phone so not worried if it comes to that. besides, wouldn’t want to scare them with all my tattoos and short hair. :)

Hi, I’m new, but I’ve been reading this thread since the application deadline. I also applied to Yale’s EWP, and like many I haven’t heard back; therefore, I’m wondering what is everyone’s consensus. Is hearing nothing from Yale good or bad? I don’t like posting because I know many schools do read the boards, but since so little information exists about EW, I didn’t know where else to turn, and the anxiety of waiting is driving me insane! BTW, I don’t want to call and ask, because I would be annoyed by applicant’s calls if I was an admission administrator, as I imagine they receive many calls from anxious applicants.
Also, I know they allow phone interviews, but with my bad luck with technology (yes this includes phones, even landlines), and because my in person repertoire far exceeds my telephonic abilities, I would choose to go to CT to interview. However, like others, I’m on the West coast, and flying out to CT is expensive and takes at least 2.5 days; therefore, now I’m worried about how much notice I’d get if I’m offered an interview. Nevertheless, I just needed to get my worries out, but would appreciate anyone’s opinion regarding the lack of response from Yale, and I wish everyone good luck wherever you applied!

I think we should all expect to hear something in by the end of next week or so.

That’s not official or anything, but since the interviews are supposed to “take place” in May, I can’t imagine they would wait much beyond next week to notify people one way or another…

The more time you have to schedule a flight, the cheaper it’s going to be… Several weeks out is going to be a lot cheaper than several days.

How many people here have actually interviewed?

ilivefree. planning for berk… and trying to get off waitlist at penn, but that doesn’t look like it’ll happen. So, i cannot find a place to live. Your place in albany. howd u get it? Richmond looks like a total dump on good maps. Is it? Where is it decent to live and close to berk?

Richmond is a total dump, and gang run. Don’t live there. I got my place driving in the neighborhood, got lucky. Depending on your budget, emeryville (new apartments), el cerrito, and albany are all good options. Feel free to email me areas you’re looking at and ill give you feedback. Knowing your budget would help too… And if you have a car or not. Email me: info@tacytraverso.com

Hi Annalo…you said last month that you had an interview scheduled for the middle of May. Did you have it yet?

Has anyone heard anything from Yale, rejections, interview requests, acceptance? I haven’t heard anything still.
