I’m just sad because Brown is now probably much more selective.

*tear

Maybe statistically but think about it; the people who apply just to have a chance to see Emma probably are the least qualified, so if you’re on track, then it’s probably gonna be relatively the same. It’s rather hard to build up a good resume/scores/tests in what, the 6 months that we’ve known she goes to Brown?

At least I hope so :]

While the acceptance rate may go down, the talk 4 months ago was that this would have no real affect on admissions - many of the applicants applying only because they want to go to school with her likely are not the top candidates for admission. A lower acceptance rate =/= harder to be accepted.

^true. the applicants who want brown for brown and get brown are self selected.

Emma!!!

;)

Does anyone actually know anyone who’s applying purely to see Emma Watson? (this is an actual question, answer meeeee :)).

I think if anything her attendance (along with the Gossip Girl influence) has brought Brown more into the public eye. Any application spikes will probably be due to increased knowledge of the institution; I don’t think anyone would waste their time with Brown’s difficult/unique app just to occasionally spot a celeb (though they may joke otherwise).

Brown has had celebrities for years and in fact, in the 90s was known for attracting celebs. We don’t really have a lack of name recognition and the so-called Emma effect is nonsense. I say this as someone who talks to prospective students constantly through several angles. Having stronger aid than all except some of the other Ivies, the Common App, and a general resurgence of people looking for choice when they are in college are having huge effects, Emma Watson is not.

^true story. brown is probably the ivy with the most celebs

I heard Wolfmanjack from CC went there.

Yeah, officially, for about 30 years now.
On the subject of celebrity-laden Brown, there have been books (“The Price of Admission” by Daniel Golden), magazine articles (“School for Glamour” in Vanity Fair), and online magazines (“College of the Stars” in The Daily Beast, [College Of The Stars - The Daily Beast](<a href=“The Daily Beast: The Latest in Politics, Media & Entertainment News”>The Daily Beast: The Latest in Politics, Media & Entertainment News)).
I apologize for this scurrilous post.

Hahahahahahaha
:)

Than what?
Brown has been hyper-selective since about 1978.
A year ago, before anybody knew that whats-her-name was a factor, Brown got its usual topmost and liveliest applicant pool in the country and rejected all but 11 percent of it.

Emma Watson must’ve had an effect on Brown. The year she enrolled the number of applicants spiked, although Brown did nothing special in marketing. I first knew about Brown because of Emma Watson, especially for international students Emma Watson was a hook into researching about the school more. But the reason people decided to apply to Brown can’t be Emma Watson, I think people would apply because they liked the school not Emma.

Brown here I come

My friend is only applying to brown just for emma watson. He is extremely qualified I believe with a 2370 SAT and top 10% of his class and subject tests in the very high 700s in lit and U.S. and Bio with a varsity sport and other school campus roles. I am pretty confident he will get in just because he is simply a beautiful writer and his essays are top notch but that is one 2300+ SAT applicant that wouldn’t have applied if emma watson was not at brown. I imagine there are 100s more where he came from haha so i somewhat believe emma has risen the selectivity of brown, at least a little.

lol im sure some1 with a 2370 + worked hard throughout their life ain’t gonna just randomize their future for one chick…even if she happens to be uber hot + actress :P

^as funny as my posts sounds I guarantee you he is applying to many other colleges, it’s just that brown is his top choice and he is applying there mostly because of emma watson. He is applying to other colleges but would want to see emma for sure. I know I sound like a ■■■■■ but I have no reason to lie.

I just find it really sad that someone would apply to a school because a famous person goes there. Yes, she is around on campus, but the whole reason she’s at Brown is because she wants to receive a top-notch education and not be bothered like people like your friend.

Is there any way we can report this thread or have it deleted in its entirety? It is absurd to hear many people are applying because of one person and insulting that they feel justified in their decision. Perhaps this is an elaborate joke. If it is, the punch-line fell flat.
