F10 Design | Media Arts Applicants

Applying to the program for F10 and saying hello to the people who are applying to the program, who are in the program, and graduated from the program.

After reading some old threads, this department is highly selective, highly competitive to get in. To those who are DMA majors, how are you guys liking it so far?

Good luck on the portfolio submission guys.

i’m applying to this program too! i’m super nervous about the 2-pg artist statement thing, but good to see a fellow applicant on cc :)

We had to write not just two, but three personal statements. The third one needs to be single space (-_-) and a bit of a challenge cause of the way they want us to write it.

Working on the portfolio and personal statement over winter break and plan to send it in the early weeks of January.

I’m working on my supplemental app over winter break too. Did anyone else attend one of the Art Information nights? It was very informative, but a bit depressing too knowing that only a very few freshman get in.

I’ve got a question about the portfolio pieces. I kinda want to give a short description (5 words or less) to each of my pieces. Not sure if I should embed the description in the corner of my pieces, or attach a 1 page document with a short description of each piece, or just don’t bother and let the judges interpret the piece as they like. What is everyone else doing?

I just finished my personal statement and got it revised several times. Glad to have finished that part of it.

Yeah can some one who got in the program please explain if the above question is acceptable to put in a detail explanation of each piece even though they have a HUGE pool of supplemental applications to look over. Thanks.

I think this will be helpful to many. [Portfolio of Mylinh Nguyen](http://users.design.ucla.edu/~djvmc/24/portfolio/admissionsportfolio.html)

Thanks, samjogo. I just mailed in my supplemental app. Gulp.

Yeah, I just mailed mine today. Whew, glad that is over with!

Ah!

The time is almost here for admissions letters!

I want to be a UCLA Design I Media Arts student more than anything, there is no program quite like it and it is in such an inspiring city.

Best of luck to everyone that applied!

Katie

found something interesting to read related to DEMA. [An Oscar for a Bruin / UCLA Today](http://today.ucla.edu/portal/ut/bruin-takes-oscar-for-special-154816.aspx)

a good read.

^ that’s cool… samjojo, did you get accepted? I was rejected, but going to UCSD, my 2nd choice.

I applied as a transfer and won’t hear till late april. sorry to hear that art, are you thinking about appealing?

^ No, not going to appeal… I knew it was a long-shot. 3 of us from my high school Advanced Publications class applied to DEMA, and 1 got in and 2 of us didn’t. The 1 that got in definitely had MAD skills in graphics and I wasn’t surprised. She said 40 out of 1,000 freshman DEMA applicants got accepted (4%). I was pretty bummed, but I’m very happy that I got accepted at UCSD. They’ve got a good Visual Arts program. Good luck to you.

I got into media arts. any graduates/people there? I’m deciding between this and usc roski.

gj getting in. visit both schools, ask questions, see if the quarter or the semester is right for you etc etc. hope I can found out the decision by tomorrow.

glad you got into something that you wanted art. just imagine if the acceptance rate for freshman is low, the transfer rate acceptance might be even lower…shiet!

Samjogo,

So nice to see another transfer applicant! My nerves are all over the place right now, I can not wait for admissions decisions! Where are you transferring from? I am coming from SMC.

Best of luck!!! Hopefully we both shall have good news to share.

The wait has been long, but it will soon be over. I’m applying from ECC and finishing up the lower division stuff for the major this spring semester. Good luck to you Katie.

Great, thanks Samjogo, best of luck to you as well.

I am aware that our portfolio is the main thing considered in admission— but does being apart of TAP help too?

For the admission to the major, yes the supplemental application with the personal statement and portfolio. But I thinks its good to have it to gain admittance to UCLA, but idk.
