Fall 2020 Transfer

UVA does not accept transfers for their BS in CS department but only BA.

can anyone chance me? I am coming from NVCC system and will be a third year transfer. My gpa right now is a 3.796 and I plan on entering the arts and science department with a major in CS. So far, I have most of the requirements other than foreign languages - have none of.

Hi, does anybody know the out of state admission rate for transfers? /
Also, my stats: (I’d appreciate if any of you chance me)

Engineering
Out of state, Private engineering school
3.67 GPA,
Little to no extracurriculars.
Rising 3rd year, completed all the required courses

you’ll get rejected

@2ef23e that was harsh to say. You do not know his/her background nor their situation. Everyone is on an equal playing field and everyone has a shot.

Fall 2019 transfer acceptance rate data:

CAS
in state: 57%
out of state: 26%

Commerce
in state: 24%
out of state: 7%

Engineering
in state: 41%
out of state: 17%

Does UVA admit majority transfer students from NOVA community college? I go to George Mason here in VA and im nervous that they put priority for NOVA CC students and not 4 year students

they do admit NOVA students. They have guranteed admissions program with the college, if you take a certain amounts of courses and obtain a certain gpa, they will gurantee you admissions. They like NVCC students infact. On their website it says half of their transfer are students from NVCC system.

Where did you see they do not accept transfers for their BS in CS?

Last year, UVA Admissions offered Virginia students on the waitlist the opportunity to attend UVA Wise (satellite college in Wise, Virginia). The offer was attend to UVA Wise for one year and get automatically transferred to UVA Charlottesville the next year, assuming grades were good.

I don’t know the number of people who took that offer, but that will impact the number of transfers slots available for fall 2020.

Dean J wrote about it on March 26, 2019

“Virginia residents on the waiting list are given the option of enrolling at UVA Wise for one year before guaranteed transfer to UVA. There are some academic requirements for the time at Wise, of course. If you are a Virginia resident, you will see a question about the UVA Wise option on your waiting list reply form. Answering yes will get you some more information from our colleagues at Wise. You won’t be removed from our waiting list process and you aren’t bound to Wise if you select the “yes” option.”

Hey guys!
I’m so happy to join this conversation, I thought I was a lone wolf out here.

I am applying from NVCC with guaranteed admission for the Engineering School. However, I am stressed about the price of UVA. I somehow got a $10k scholarship for V-Tech, but this is not my dream school. I was wondering if anyone knew any information regarding the price or scholarships at UVA. If not, maybe share your opinion why you chose UVA over VT Engineering?

I personally love UVA because I visited the campus and loved the way the professors taught their classes, and the student:teacher ratio was much smaller.

I have read all of the ‘chance’ me, and I think we all have at least an 80% or more chances of making it in! I hope we all do

Hi everyone! I was hoping to get some insight on my chances of getting into Curry for elementary education. For reference, I’m white-female applying for 3rd year not under GAA but will have Associate’s. Also a legacy but unsure if that will matter.

Here are my stats from in-state CC:

  • 3.69 GPA
  • 62 credits, 85 after this semester (I took some dual-enrollment credits that won’t transfer)
  • All prereqs for the major at Curry will be completed
-Two W’s from chemistry and calculus (not in the same semester)
-Two intensive writing courses with A’s
  • Not reporting my two horrible SAT scores
  • Praxis scores: Math-160, Reading-190, Writing-172

If highschool matters I had a 3.75 and was an Early College Scholar (graduated with 21 college creds).

EC’s:

  • Work experience, have had 3 jobs, first job at 15
  • Babysitting since I was 15 or 16
  • Restarted a political advocacy club, currently club secretary
  • Member of a Christian club
  • Volunteered at a nursing home for 8 weeks

Going to ask my math prof. for a letter of rec., she would know me best and is also a UVA prof.

Soon I’ll be volunteering at a children’s museum and also starting my observation hours at an elementary school for my education class, I don’t know if either should be put on my application because I don’t want it to look weird that I began both these things 2 weeks before applications were due.

I think my essay is alright-ish but I have been told I critique myself too much.

I don’t know much about the Curry school but your definitely, in my opinion, a competitive applicant.

sfm2673, i think legacy does matter a little, I saw that in high school.

I also attended their transfer open house and the admission counselors mentioned that the most important factor is that you have completed the requirements for the school you are applying to. So you have that going for you!

They also mentioned that most students from CC that transfer actually don’t complete GAA, so they don’t frown upon that

Annnnnnd… Since the GAA requirements for most schools is ~3.4, I think 3.69 should be sufficient!

I really think your chances are pretty high unless you got a C or something in one of the required classes.

Is this actually true? If so, could you give me a source?

I dont think that is true, you need to apply to different schools for each of those though. The Comp. Sci B.S. is offered through the Engineering school, and the Comp. Sci. B.A. is offered through the College of Arts and Sciences. There’s more information about the C.S. department at UVA in this video:

Has anyone submitted their application yet?

I’ve submitted mine. Wanted to get it done over the winter holidays rather than during spring term.

Can someone chance me? I think UVA is my furthest reach.

terrible HS stats (2.2 GPA).

Are official SAT scores required to be sent at the time of application?
