Does anyone know if the transfer course requirements need to absolutely be completed, even if you intend on entering as a second year? I am applying to the engineering school and have everything done but the calculus. The reason being is that I took AB and BC in high school and decided to save money and not retake them in college. I received AP credit for both AB and BC. Will the fact that I didn’t take Calc 1 and 2 in a college setting make my application void? If someone could answer, it would be much appreciated.
sol0Flyer, The requirements for the Engineering school are:
Calculus II, Calculus III, Chemistry I + Lab, Physics I + Lab, and a Programming class.
You should check if UVA will accept your math credits, I believe that only a 5 in the BC exam will award you credit for Calculus II (APMA 1110) at UVA.
If you did get a 5, that should be enough to cover you for the Calc 2 part. However, you should have also completed Calc 3, even as a sophomore transfer. A typical engineering student at UVA takes Calc 2 in their first semester and Calc 3 in their second semester.
If you are missing any of these requirements, you should still contact admissions and apply man. You won’t lose anything!
I am debating whether or not I should apply to the CAS or MctIntire. McIntire is very intimidating with my GPA. I already have an associates in science from high school but I will have completed all the prereqs for either or. 3rd year transfer.
Current school: Virginia Commonwealth University
GPA: 3.7/4.0
Extracurriculars:
American Marketing Association
College Republicans
Used to run track and XC for VCU (idk if I should put that)
Essay: Extremely strong
Good luck to everyone!
Also Calc based physics 2 for engineering.
Does anyone know what the OOS transfer acceptance rate is?
Fall 2019 transfer acceptance rate data:
CAS
in state: 57%
out of state: 26%
Commerce
in state: 24%
out of state: 7%
Engineering

@TouristHistory With those stats you got rejected?
@Bizdock Oh sorry, I meant when I was in high school. I should’ve been more clear, my bad! I hope I get accepted this time as a transfer tho
How about my chances?

Also, I am a greeter for my church and I will graduate with my Associates in May. (I have edited my first comment so just ignore this one haha)
We have very similar stats. I am also going to be transferring from NVCC with an associates degree but I wont have any foreign languages. The only ‘non-A’s’ I have are a C in calc 1 and a B in pre-calc 1. Rest are all A’s, which put my GPA to a 3.8 flat.
@2ef23e @blakester0012 Considering that the GPA for GAA for the college of Arts and Sciences is 3.6, i think both of you are strong candidates! Plus, since your primary majors are not math oriented, I don’t think a B or a C in Calc 1 will matter, I think they will focus more on your core subject areas!
Awesome! Thank you both and good luck!
Is anyone going to send their SAT scores?
I sent mine just in case they want it, I dont think it is necessary though.
How long does it take for transcripts to be marked at completed in the portal? I sent mine last week and I got an email saying it had been received around last Wednesday but it still says its missing the portal?
My stats:
VA residence.
Now: William & Mary math and cs double major, GPA3.7 (only As and Bs)
Applied as second year. 51 credites after this semester.

Reapply to UVA now in fall semester. I feel I love big university more. WM is a fantastic in state school.
@Spring2020Mathhh YOU’RE GOOD!
Hey, does anyone have any word in what they will do to fall applicants due to corona?! They just closed the school, lowkey worried…
@TouristHistory I believe Grounds will remain open even as UVA switches to all online classes.
The process will continue on as normal. I actually called the admissions office today relating to my application and my mid term report, and it appears that applications will be reviewed as they normally are.
