Fall 2020 Yale Transfer Thread

@jianxue @veggiewok @rejectedguy
When did you receive your interview requests and when did you do your interviews?

they just ask you very basic questions about what ur application is about

i received my interview request a couple of days after april 10 and did my interview around a week ago.

so is it confirmed that everyone who doesn’t get an interview has no chance of getting in? I saw on previous threads that people got in without an interview but I know someone on here said they spoke to a transfer student at Yale who said otherwise.

i dont see why thatd be the case, i dont think interviews r the end all

@fcbarcelona19782 what does that mean questions about what your application is about?

Been watching this thread for a bit. Just wanted to let y’all know that I had an interview with an AO about 2 weeks ago and I’m from a community college. So no, it’s not just “t-10’s” getting interviews.

Wait, so there are people who got live interviews even after submitting their StandOut one?

@kb199977 what kind of questions did they ask you?

like they asked me what im doing at my current institution, why i think im a good fit at yale, a lot of common interview questions

@ivysky

I don’t think doing the standout interview or not doing it impacts your chances of being chosen for one many people are saying they got interview invites wayyy before the standout deadline.

yeah same here

I can’t speak for this year but really my friend at Yale who transferred last year told me that every single transfer there had an interview with an AO and if you didn’t get one that was a bad sign. Also if you do get an interview that doesn’t mean you will get in because he knows some that did get an interview and did not get in–albeit your chances are pretty good tho. We don’t know how they’re handling it this year but it seems like they’re still doing interviews, which is odd because they did the standout.

I emailed the Director of Transfer Admissions and she said that they will mostly likely finalize their decisions as to which applicants will receive an interview by the end of this week. I do not know if she was referring to all prospective transfer students or just applicants to Yale College. For those of you who received an interview with an admissions officer, may you please indicate whether you applied to Yale College or to the Eli Whitney Students Program?

@albright2855 By 2nd May or 26th April?

@albright2855 this is the Yale College transfer applicant forum.

Guys I don’t like how majority of applicants that got an interview requests come from peer t20 institutions. This is kind of proving a bad hunch I had. That because of COVID-19 SHUTTING down all universities and moving classes to online platforms A QUARTER INTO THE SEMESTER, Yale wants the transfer students that come from the best schools this year because most applicants have had a lack of an education and they might as well pick the ones that had the best education in that I time before coming to Yale.

Why would they interview people again after sending out the StandOut interview option? Was it like this last year, as well?

i think the standout interviews is new
