Fall of 2016 Applicants

@liberalguy97 you’re probably the first guy who is sparking hope. I can’t wait. I need to get into a Texas univ with a 1000$ scholarship to study in the States. I guess Thursday or Friday should be the day!

Anyway are you an applicant as wll?

@pk2608 Are you international? And yeah, i’m an applicant as well. I applied to Liberal Arts but my rank is horrible because my HS class size is <50. I know that my rank is the only thing holding me back. I guess we’ll see  I’m just trying to stay positive. I actually bought some longhorn shirts yesterday lol hopefully I don’t have to return them.

My son was admitted to Butler School of Music on 2/15. He logged into mystatus to see the good news and received an email from the school today (2/16). No email or snail mail regarding admittance received yet. Hook’em!

Just wondering, could a bad SAT cost you admittance for engineering? Mine is really bad (1800, not great at standardized tests) but the rest of my application is pretty great IMO. (Great gpa, top 1% rank, good essays, etc.) I applied for MechE and ECE so my hope is rather slight. :-S

@chemnerd4 It likely depends on the breakdown within 1800. You can see this document:
https://www.utsystem.edu/sites/utsfiles/documents/institutions/best-practice-admissions-processes/ut-system-admissions-best-practices-2014-07.pdf
At the very bottom are forumlae for your AI based on SAT sections and class rank. The AI is a predictor of your freshman GPA based on these inputs. These formulae won’t tell you whether or not you’ll get in because you don’t know how others did but they will tell you the relative value assigned class rank and SAT sections.

Also look at:
http://www.engr.utexas.edu/undergraduate/admissions/calculus
which gives you minimum SAT math requirements for admission to engineering (though there a several ways to meet the requirement other than SAT math).

@elisewhitney Thanks for confirming! Wow! In just a few days we’ll all know! Crossing our fingers and toes for news of acceptance!

Someone’s kid from our area found out that they were accepted to UT Austin for BME- in central Texas.

quick question: so if we got an email asking us to register for the financial aid session if we are interested, is that a good sign? I signed up for tomorrow’s session still not knowing if I have been admitted to UT?

Not sure. We got one a week or so ago, also. Maybe everyone got one??

Did anyone apply to or get into physics?

yes my friend (non-auto) got into Physics in December.

I’m pretty sure after seeing that Pai and GPA thing that I’m not getting in. FML!

@Victori1211 ok life officially sucks wtf. Do you know her stats by any chance?

At least your guys’ applications aren’t considered late. Mine is being classified as late because I never bothered to go on to the UT portal website after submitting the common application until January… So I don’t know how much that will hurt me. OOS with 2280 SAT and decent GPA(~3.83)

My son is still waiting on a decision, as many of you are. The waiting is almost over. Good luck to all in getting their decisions.
Even though an email is sent, son is checking several times a day. His cousin checked her status for admissions (she was auto admit and got ChemE a week or two ago) and the my status change email came later.

UT is very frustrating specially when it tweets back that international applicants should not expect a decision before mid April! What are we supposed to do till then wait for these snails?

@UTcomethru we go to a non-ranking school so she didn’t have a rank, but she did have a couple of B’s here and there throughout high school. However (not to discourage you), she did have a 36 ACT, but her EC’s were not over the top or anything like that, so don’t lose hope. Good luck to you! I’m pretty sure these next few days are going to be super stressful for all of us.

At least we now know it will be a maximum of a couple of days instead of two more weeks…that is something…I keep expecting to see a blast of postings on this thread when I log on. My S has very low chances of acceptance (OOS, mediocre class rank but high ACT which is why we put in as a long shot) but I still get excited about decisions coming out. GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY!!

@UTcomethru My son was admitted to Physics January 22. We are OOS. His stats were 3.966 u/w GPA, 32 ACT, Nat’l Merit Commended, lots of extracurricular, works 20-25 hrs week and will graduate HS with his AA degree through dual credit classes. I didn’t think the stats were anything spectacular in comparison to some I’ve seen on this forum. If he has a hook, it might be that we live in a small town (pop. 6,200) in rural Iowa, not a top HS by any means. Still waiting to hear about Son #2, which I guess the answer will be coming this week. Good luck!
