Fall of 2016 Applicants

What’s the difference between CAP and PACE? Is one a better option over the other? Do you get priority application review when reapplying?

Accepted to Cockrell for first choice Petroleum Engineering
Im latino and my SAT was 800 math 710 reading and 670 writing act 34 math 34 reading 10 essay
No extracurriculars. Im not even joking. I did nothing outside of school lol.
Oh Im top 5.5 percent at and took 15 AP Classes in high school.

@GuerreroLonghorn He was waitlisted and offered CAP and PACE. In-state applicants are never rejected, but this is de facto the same. Based on 2015 - 2016 Common Data Set only 18 waitlisted students were admitted (to the whole UT Austin), so I wouldn’t hold my breath. PACE and CAP guarantee access to College of Liberal Arts only, after spending a year in Austin Community College or one of the academically less challenging UT system universities. Not really an option for a prospective engineering or computer science student.

@tx36542 thanks for the stats on waitlisted. I only saw some for 2013, when 5 students were admitted. I know one of those 18 from last year had been denied McCombs and were offered off the wait list for UGS.
While my son really wanted UT and is disappointed, he’s trying to find how he can make UT work. It won’t, in the long run. He’s accepted into 2 other engineering programs so PACE really doesn’t make sense for him. He is already accepted to a UT system school engineering program but it’s home, and not Austin.

@Thelma2 then your son should accept other ut system offer and work on maintaining a super high gpa, get calculus classes done and reapply as transfer student when he is about to earn 30 credits.

Accepted to Electrical Engineering! SAT: 2280

@blaugrana9 I’m sorry you got rejected. My son got rejected for CS as well, and we’re pretty surprised. Are you out of state? And what are your stats?

@Bailey101 Congratulations to your daughter! Are you OOS? What were her stats? My son got rejected, and I’m trying to figure out why.

I got accepted last night!!!

Congrats to everyone else who got in, and to those who didn’t, keep your head up, your all destined for great things!

@MominOhio2
I so sorry to hear your son got a rejection, ugh so dissapointing. My D stats were first in class of 530, ACT of 30, and good essays, with one directed at why CS for her, decent ECs but not extraordinary. She did visit UT in the spring and took a tour of the computer science area and met with a couple student advisers. I don’t know if that might have helped her ?

I think my essays helped since I noticed that most top 8ers in my school didnt write a quality essay and got rejected from their majors. Also I took the December ACT which put me at a 2200 sat equivalent range so that must have helped.

do all PACE students get offered to be on the wait list? or is it only offered to a select few from the PACE offered applicants? thank guys for answering, I really appreciate it.

I’m told they reinstated wait lists this year. She has a good shot at a less competitive program. I hope she’ll pursue it.

Congrats to everyone! Does anyone know how long it’ll be until I get the acceptance letter in the mail?

About a week.

Waitlisted/offered CAP program. Would’ve considered it, except my dad literally just moved to AZ so we lose our in-state tuition anyway. ^#(^ I’m still waiting to hear back from 5 more schools and have already been accepted to five, so it’s not as big a deal as I thought it would be.
Stats:
-31 ACT, 2060 overall SAT
-Technically considered in-state (for tuition purposes) at time of application
-Caucasian, female
-11 AP classes
-A few GREAT letters of rec, including one from a doctor with whom I did an internship last summer
-I did visit the school in October, so apparently that didn’t help that much :))
-NOT from a Texas school; parents are divorced and I attend a charter in AZ
-My high school doesn’t rank, so when UT Austin ranked me I would’ve been lower ranked because eleven students out of 57 in my class have a 4.0 and I don’t, LOL.

Anyway, good luck to everyone else! Mainly bummed that I dropped $125 on this application. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s kinda sad to see some people get rejected. Especially since they have better stats and EC’s than I do. Anybody know what to do next after getting admissions? Is their another thread where people help out incoming freshman for UTA?

Accepted to Moody College of Communication today!

SAT: 1820
GPA: 4.11
