Fall TV

Is anyone watching The Affair? I have to admit that the reason I was interested was because Dominic West is on it and he was on the best, in my opinion, series ever made, The Wire. I’ve only watched the first episode and it was enough to keep me watching. The story, and I presume, each episode is told from two viewpoints, each of those in the affair. An interesting concept and the fact that there were clear differences, small but intentional, in how each of them is telling the story was fascinating. I found the episode riveting. The cast is excellent and one amusing thing is that the actor, John Doman, who plays West’s character’s father-in-law, whom he hates, played the major who made McNulty’s life hell in The Wire. Great casting.

Poor Walking Dead character Bob! His ‘goose’ is cooked!

^^ I agree! Although I wonder if Bob was bitten by a walker when he was in the flooded basement - he was acting pretty weird afterwards…

I just watched that – a recap said he was limping before he started crying by the tree so the inference is that shiskeBob was bitten on his foot. Wow, what an ep. Rick was right - should have eliminated those Termites in ep 1!
And is anyone else excited about C&D going on a roadtrip?

I love Carol and Daryl - anything they do or any place they go is watchable, in my opinion!

I’m trying not to think about Bob.

@scholarme and @madison85 - did you see Walking Dead tonight? Man, every episode this season has been excellent!

@scout59 Yes! Tainted meat!

We’ve been enjoying “Rush”… but all of the sudden it is gone from the Comcast On Demand listings. What’s up with that?

Scout - what a cliffhanger!

The ending of Boardwalk Empire was satisfying enough for this viewer who saw every single episode.
Sad to have another quality HBO show come to an end.
Don’t think will revisit again in a nostalgic binge except for youtube scenes of Richard Harrow.

Homeland is really trying my patience, cringing and viewing the episode between my fingers last night.
Ugh, Carrie.

(I meant The Walking Dead ep last night was a cliffhanger. Sorry for the confusion.)

I knew EXACTLY what you meant, scholarme! I wonder to whom Daryl was speaking! Is Beth in the woods? What happened to Carol - is she okay?

I’m not normally a vengeful person, but I was glad to see what happened to Gareth.

Maybe we need a Walking Dead thread…

All the shows I like tend to get canceled because they don’t appeal to a broad enough audience. Manhattan Love Story is already gone and Selfie and A to Z are sure to follow. (Check out TV by the Numbers, which is a main source of overnight, adjusted, dvr, etc. ratings for every show.) These shows belong on a cable network where they don’t have to deliver a mainstream large audience. Selfie in particular has brilliant writing but it’s way too fast and current for the broadcast audience. I was blown away that last week they included a reference to Renee Zellweger’s plastic surgery within a day or two of the pictures.

@beerme, I agree - although there seem to be many who are not fans of the ending of Boardwalk Empire. I thought it was okay although ******* spoilers below**********

the showrunners signaled long ago that Nucky’s betrayal of Gillian would haunt him until his dying day. It seemed like the moment he served up Gillian to the commodore was played as a big reveal, which it wasn’t - although the young man who played young Nucky did a magnificent job showing his horror and internal turmoil as he sold his soul there on the boardwalk. And Tommy shooting him means that the sacrifice to get Tommy out of AC at age 6 or so to be raised by good people was all for nothing.

I think it would have been equally good to have Nucky fade into obscurity in his dotage. But if he had to go, it had to be on his beloved boardwalk.

I was somewhat disappointed with the ending. I think that it stretched credulity to think that Tommy heard those things from Gillian. There was no indication of that at any time in the seasons where he was a child and prior to him being whisked away from AC, that I can recall. I understand that it fit the life-comes-full-circle and retribution type story arc but there was no foundation for it, in my opinion, and it was an easy way to end it. I agree with snowdog that having Nucky walk into the distance, down the boardwalk, would have been preferable.

I loved this show and am sad that it’s over. It was interesting in a historical sense, although many of the characters were fictional. It was beautifully filmed and visually stunning, in its historical accuracy of costumes/furnishings/music, etc. Terrific performances with an exceptional ensemble cast through the years, and it provided work for an incredible number of NY actors and techies for five years. Bravo.

^^ yes I agree. Nucky having to live in obscurity and sit thinking of Mabel and his disastrous wrong turns would have been just punishment. It seemed moralistic to have him whacked at the end and it incredible that Tommy would know much of anything about “grandma.”

Has anyone here ever watched “Rectify”? It’s on Sundance TV and is currently in its second season, I think. Our son suggested it and my DH and I have been watching It’s about a guy who has been on Death Row for a murder for the past 19 years and has recently been released on a technicality (not declared innocent). He and his family deal with adjusting to his return to small town Georgia life. It’s the most beautiful and painful show I have ever seen. I have cried more than once… if you are interested in quality TV with incredible acting and really interesting music, check it out.

No, but I have salivated over clothing on the Sundance catalog website. I haven’t ordered anything from them (yet), though.

My husband and I enjoy Rectify - we don’t know anyone else who is watching. Quality show.

well Katniss1, you now know at least three others who watch it. Though I usually have to either watch or read something chipper after Rectify.
