Fashion fads you love, miss, or wish would go away

@MaineLonghorn

When I look back at photos of me rocking cowboy boots and a mini skirt from 35 years ago I don’t cringe. I’m sad I don’t have that body anymore. But the boots are still living the good life with my DD and her short dresses.

^I guess people have different tastes! It sure looks funny to me.

Love high heels, animal prints and scarves!! I don’t like the 4 inch or more though. Every time I see a really really cute pair of footwear, there they are…those stupid ultra high heels.

I loved shoulder pads. I know it’s funny to look back at them, but they did make our hips look thin. I’m also liked big hair…again, not the ridiculous ones we see in old pics, but something like from Dynasty? Ok…you can make fun of me now.

I don’t like capris on me. I wish they would go out of style so I wouldn’t feel bad never wearing them…

I love the bling costume jewelry…I hope that stays.

I want to know what hair fad @romanigypsyeyes dislikes! Do tell - it fits the thread!!!

Funny how one person dislike is another person’s love. I love cropped pants! Hate high heels! Love low waisted pants! Hate some other things!

I saw Tretorns recently at Nordstrom Rack I think - I really wanted to get them!

Never knew that large shoulder pads were supposed to slim our hips–now you tell me!!! My H hated them and begged me to remove most of the shoulder pads that were on clothing I owned and I did remove most of them. They fit better without them.

@abasket I hate, hate, hate the guys’ fade hair cut where it’s short on the sides and then long on the top (especially if it’s fairly long on the top). I also hate the man bun but not as much as I hate the fade cut.

I don’t know why but I just absolutely hate it.

I’d also be ok with the big hair of the 80s never coming back :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, I dislike it too, @romanigypsyeyes. I wasn’t even aware of it. I’m also not a fan of having “rat tails,” especially on very young males.

I really think arm sleeves and more of tattoos are very off-putting to me personally. I’m not a fan of inked human flesh, but large displays are especially distracting.

I look forward to the end of the “statement necklace” trend. I am fine with costume jewelry, but often statement necklaces look cheap and distract from the clothing (and the face). Obviously many people love them because I see them a lot!

Pajama pants in public, huge displays of tatoos on shoulders, chest, back and arms (I try to picture a strapless white wedding dress with those, ewwwwwww), and I really can’t stand tongue rings–it is very distracting when you are talking to someone who has one.

I love sweaters (I’m always cold), scarves, comfy shoes- boots or asics, & jeans- mid-rise: not too low & not “mom jeans.” As you can tell- very casual.

I dislike high heels & nylons- torture, pure torture! (Does anyone really even wear them any more? At one time they were a must with dresses.)

For men- also do NOT like that man-bun fad. Hope it has a short life.

@NorthernMom61 -I’m also very distracted by those huge pierced-ear spacers.

Oh and I forgot this one - stretched earlobes. The comment about tongue rings reminded me, because I also have a hard time talking to people with those or the stretched lobes. I don’t mean to be rude but it’s just very hard for me to look at them directly.

HATE: ponchos, high waist jeans, pre-distressed jeans (particularly the ones that make you look like you sat in bleach), men’s dress shoes with an extended toe, those crop tops that hang straight off the boobs as if you could look right up there, Target quality “statement” necklaces, Tori Burch flats, wedge dress sneakers, jumpsuits, guys over 40 in “modern” cut suits, bedazzle butt True Religion jeans (especially on guys), giant purses, stirrup pants, belted sweaters.

adding tongue piercings and gauges to the hate list

LOVE: mid/lower rise jeans, colored pants, skinny jeans, 3/4 sleeve anything, boat necks, broaches, cross body bags, little 50s style handbags, nicer real jewelry interesting pieces, interesting top coats, cardigans, and other things that I can’t think of right now.

Yes - the man bun has got to go! Hate it.
Leggings are not pants - please wear a top that covers your backside with them.
I love highrise skinny jeans and I’m ready for lowrise jeans to go.

I hate cowboy boots with a passion. For myself.

Jeggings, I love my jeggings. I love boots, low boots, knee high boots, all the boots. I love comfortable sandals. And leggings with boots. I love Moto jackets.

Honestly I like lots of things that others don’t. As long as its tasteful and looks good on the person wearing it, go ahead. If you can’t wear something when you are cute and young, when can you? I love fashion, all kinds.

I kinda like the man bun, if he’s cute and young, it’s fine by me. I like long dreadlocks on certain men. I’m not a fan of the shrunken suit or the skinny jean on men.

What don’t I like, cat sweatshirts. You know the ones. When anyone is messy, dirty and doesn’t care what they look like. What I really don’t like. How people dress on a plane, most of the time. Seriously, I swear lots of people look like they’ve been on a 3 day bender. They have to have something that is comfortable and somewhat cute.

I hate when men wear ball caps in a restaurant. And wife beaters. Wearing camouflage other than hunting.

I think a lot of our discrepancies are possibly due to our body types. For instance, capris look great on my friends with torsos that are normal or shorter. My torso is long compared to my legs, so they look like flood pants on me. I need full length pants to lengthen my legs…even my DH mentioned once they weren’t his favorite style on me. I will wear them if they are longer…just above the ankle and I wear gladiator heels.

Same with shoulder pads…I am fairly tall and carry any extra weight in my hips…the shoulder pads balance it out nicely. Probably why I enjoy wearing jackets…they are normally more constructed in the shoulders.

I forgot to add capris to things that I love! I am really good in ankle pants of all kinds: skinny, cuffed, boyfriend . . . they all look good on me. I’m not talking about those just below the knee things that grandmas wear to Disney Land in the summer in lieu of shorts. They have to fall at least below the widest part of my calf. A lower waist ankle pant is almost my best look.

Agree that the right styles for the right bodies are key. I have yet to see a body that improves with added ink and gauges. I also find multiple piercing distracting, especially when they are on the face of the person.

Hate those flat gladiator sandals with the wraps that run all the way to the knee on everyone, not just me.
