Fast food restaurant ranking

Never heard of Togos. But add Zaxbys to another chain I don’t care for.

I like El Pollo Loco too, and miss them. Whenever I’m back in LA, my family makes a stop at EPL. I’m pretty meh about In-N-Out Burger.

On my recent drive through the midwest I visited a Jimmy John in desperation. Not impressed with their BLT. Also visited Culvers and had, IIRC, some kind of patty melt. That was actually really good, although bummed that they didn’t have iced coffee.

I used to be very fond of A&W root beer stands, back in the day.

It is very difficult to find fast food that is not high carb, due to the buns, biscuits, bread, and standard wraps. If Fresh City can succesfully use a low carb wrap–something I can buy in the supermarket–I don’t know why it is such a challenge for everyone else. :frowning:

The irony is that people in burrito places fall all over themselves if they think you want gluten free. That is seen as reasonable. Low carb is seen as freakish.

Love Culver’s!

While out west- We ate at a Jack In the Box once. That was enough for a lifetime. We also ate at In-N-Out Burger. They were good.

Locally- I had Panara once and Moes once. Neither of which impressed. We have Popeyes here but Bojangles is so much better so never a need to go to Popeyes.

I won’t go to a Chik fil A. I have never even seen an In and Out Burger, Baja Fresh or 5 guys. I must not get out much.

We don’t go out to eat. Maybe once a month we will go to a sit down place. We plan ahead and pack lunches for work and have meat thawing out in the fridge a day or two in advance. We use the slow cooker a lot. It saves money, time, and calories.

When we are on the road we will sometimes allow time for a sit down place. Otherwise it is pick the worst of the evils of fast food. Or just get over priced fresh fruit at the gas station.

There’s one nearby but I’ve never tried it before. They do hot sandwiches too right? Or only cold?

How would you compare it to Firehouse or Dibella’s if you’ve been to either one?

We had spicy chicken sandwiches last weekend from Jack in the Box, after I had gone to a local restauranr to get the same thing, but it was inedible.
The sandwiches were great & I was especially impressed with the tomatoes, which was the first time, I ever said that about a fast food tomato!

We went to In & Out at Fishermans Wharf.
It was ok, but I didnt think it was better than Dick’s, although they do have inside seating.
Part of the increased density in our neighborhood means that local businesses are displaced when buildings change hands. Generally national or regional chains. We now have a Jimmy Johns & 5Guys in the place of where a local chain in a building designated a historical landmark once stood. Ive never been in either place, dont need to with so many other alternatives.

WhichWich is much better- more variety. Hot and cold. Even The Elvis, which is peanut butter, banana and honey.

Mmm, I love WhichWhich. They just opened one up in the town nearby. It takes the cake with Firehouse as second. I don’t care for Subway and have not tasted a sub from Jimmy Johns that I’ve enjoyed, which is a shame since they deliver. Haven’t had Quiznos in years…probably going on a decade!

I’ve never been to Chipotle even though I’m a lover for burritos. Whenever I’m on their app and make my order, I just feel like there’s more to be desired in my toppings…so I just cancel it. When I used to work in the mall, I would always go to Moes if my break was near closing because they would always hook us up. Now…not so much. I think I’ve had too many Homewreckers in too short a time span. I’m somewhat over it.

I’ve been in need of different fast food places to go to, but Chick Fil A’s been pulling me in hard.

I don’t think it’s fair to put things that are in a few state on the list. I think In-n-out and Shake Shack need to be excluded. I also don’t consider Chipotle or Tendergreen or Panera to be fast foods. Those are fast casual.

So what if the fast food places are regional? IMO people are free to like or dislike them here. Its all good.

And whats the difference between fast food vs fast casual? The lack of a drive up, or the fact that they call your name and you go up to pick up your food at the counter (or they might even bring it to you), or the seating might be nicer? Maybe people hang out longer at “fast casual”, though many of the fast food places have free wifi and people hang out for a long time!

My kid loves Tendergreen. Instead of dorm food, she eats at Tendergreen.

Forgot to mention, I think we have a whichwhich not to far away, but until now I wasn’t interested in trying it.

In that case, it’s SO rare that I do any fast food. If anything, it’s fast casual. Going to BK, McD, Arby’s, Wendy’s, etc. would be a LAST RESORT.

All sandwich places are pretty much the same. The only one I really was surprised by the quality and quantity of ingredients was the Wegmans’ sandwich counter.

I don’t consider it fast food if there’s no drive through. If you have to go inside to order and sit down to eat it, it’s not fast food. Panera is not fast. Chipotle is not fast. No pizza place is fast food. You have to order it well in advance of picking it up. Most sub places aren’t fast and Five Guys here isn’t fast. If it isn’t ready within a few minutes of ordering, it isn’t fast either. Dunkin Donuts is just donuts, bagels, and muffins. I don’t consider that fast food either. That’s fast breakfast. Our also has Baskin Robbins ice cream in the same store.

That all said, the one place I love that is not on any of the lists is Boston Market. Love the chicken and cinnamon apples and I feel like I’m eating “real” food instead of junk. It might be no healthier than other fast food, but it seems like it is healthier!

We don’t have a Chick-Fil-A anywhere around here. Sonic is the other one missing from the list. They are good and fast. Steak and Shake has a drive through and is fast and has good burgers.

Taco Bell is THE place for the teenagers around here. Both my kids want Taco Bell first thing when they get home from college for a break. They love it and would eat it every day if they could.

Absent of a drive thru, I think of a fast food place as one that will ask “for here or to go?” when the order is placed.

Honorable mention: Wawa.

The only gas station I will stop at for food and not gas.

Barnardmom- that makes sense. No drive through = not fast food.

I go to a Subway by my gym and get a veggie sub. Foot long - I have them remove some of the inside of the bread. Spinach, tomatoes, green peppers, banana peppers, black olives, onions, lettuce and 3 hot peppers. Add oregano and we are good to go. Cut it in thirds.

This Subway is always clean with good quality veggies. I have been to others where I will not make a purchase.
