We hardly get anything delivered by FedEx to our house. Most stuff comes UPS or USPS. Last Thursday I ordered a blouse online and in the confirmation email was told it was being shipped FedEx. I was initially told it would arrive Friday. Then as I followed the tracking over the last six days, it became Saturday, and now it says Monday. We are having a party Saturday night when I was hoping to wear the shirt.

What I don’t understand is, as of this afternoon, the package is now sitting in New Berlin, WI, (a suburb of Milwaukee) which is about 60 miles from where we live (we live about halfway between Milwaukee and Chicago). Why are they now saying it’s not going to be delivered until Monday? Or is this a glitch of FedEx? Are they known for not estimating delivery dates correctly? I’ve found that UPS is pretty accurate in informing us of when they expect a package to be delivered.

If I could, I’d drive up to their facility in New Berlin and pick the thing up there to have it by Saturday!

Edited to add: I just checked the status update again and it says that it departed the New Berlin location almost two hours ago, and ‘Shipment information sent to the U.S. Postal Service’.

How frustrating. They’re incredibly fast for me. But then I’m a boomer who used to send off for prizes from the back of cereal boxes: (allow 4 to 6 weeks…)

Seriously I prefer their delivery to the other two. Maybe you live far from a hub?

@OspreyCV22 - according to the map you linked, New Berlin (where the package was from 1PM-9PM today) is a hub. As I said in my first post, that’s about 60 miles from our house. But apparently it left there about an hour ago.

We got a delivery last week at 0730. That’s morning. The dog nearly had a heart attack. They are definitely making two trips a day through my neighborhood. I bet you get it by Friday.

Well, FedEx Express would have delivered it overnight, so obviously this was FedEx Ground. You should be able to track it accurately. The problem often lies with the retailer, who will give you a guess on shipping time, right or wrong. But the accurate delivery time comes from the shipper.

I am by no means blaming FedEx for my procrastination in ordering the blouse. When I did so, I did not initially have an expected delivery date - that came within hours after my order, and said this Friday (eight days after ordering). So then I got pumped up and thought, hey, I will have it in time to wear to the party. So when the delivery date kept changing, I thought it was odd because it seemed to be moving through the system as I tracked it (SLC to Denver to New Berlin, WI). When they sent me the initial notice saying it would be here by this Friday, I did decide I didn’t need to go shopping for anything this week to wear Saturday because the shirt would be here. Now, I’m just not so sure… like I said, we don’t get a lot of stuff from FedEx, so I don’t have any experience in the reliability of their system.

@Busdriver - the tracking system I’m using (and have been using since last Friday when it left the warehouse) is the FedEx website, not necessarily the retailer. I’m using the FedEx tracking number. So it’s FedEx that keeps changing the delivery date.

All of these companies now have cheaper services where UPS, FedEx, DHL etc. transport the package across the country but then drop them off at the local post office for actual delivery. From the edit in your first post it sounds like that is what will happen. Is there now a USPS tracking number shown when you track it on FedEx? If so, then you can go to the USPS site and track it there using the USPS number. It may not show up on USPS tracking for a day though.

Edited to add: FedEx doesn’t really know how long it will take USPS to deliver it, it’s an estimate. I think the companies estimate an extra 2-3 days, but once a package shows up in the USPS system we generally get things the next day.

FedEx and UPS have given me wildly inaccurate estimated delivery dates/times which really irked me when I had to sign for the packages I ordered.

Also had the dubious pleasure of dealing with this while working for startups as the holdup meant critical computer parts and supplies we needed for the tech business ended up being held up.

One of the worst cases I had was a delivery being an entire week late. You bet we were raising hell with the merchant and FedEx/UPS about this…

I ordered an otter box (phone case) two weeks ago that was ship FexEx Smart post (combo Fed Ex and Post office) and email to FedEx bought me no results I am going to call Fed Ex today. It has been stuck in Illinois for a week supposedly. I live in GA. Sigh

"One of the worst cases I had was a delivery being an entire week late. You bet we were raising hell with the merchant and FedEx/UPS about this… "

So FedEx and UPS teamed up to deliver your package an entire week late? And here I thought they were completely different companies, that would not deliver each others freight.

I find Fed ex to be very dependable - except when they sent the final delivery to the US Postal Service. My post office is never up to date on entering the tracking info. I will however, say that they do surprise me at times and the darn package shows up earlier than I thought it would. If it doesn’t arrive today, then I would head to the mall for a backup plan…This is the last thing you need to worry about when you have a party to prepare for.

Sounds like it now has to be sorted and delivered by USPS. That could very well take a couple of days, even if the sorting facility is close to you, it still has to go to the local PO, get sorted there, then delivered. Fingers crossed.

Fedex, especially express, has been remarkably good, in my experience. Its when the seller ships by Fedex smartpost that it gets fouled up, because it hands off to the USPS and , well, they are incompetent, IMO. I ordered running shoes for DH and the company used fedex smartpost. The tracking said that the USPS might sit on teh package for 1-2 days before delivering. Say whaa??? Fortunately they delivered it on the first of those 2 days (last Saturday) not the second (this Monday), but its frustrating. I’ve also seen, when something is sent fedex ground, that it occasionally says “not scheduled for delivery” and sits for a day or 2. Thats annoying and feels like punishment for not picking a more expensive shipping option.

“Fedex, especially express, has been remarkably good, in my experience”

And that’s because they don’t want to have to refund the shipping cost. FedEx Ground and Home Delivery have suspended their money back guarantee for packages to be shipped between Dec 11-Dec 24th. Plus, if you order from a retailer, I’m not sure how much of a money back guarantee you get at all, if it goes through USPS. If you are going to go the inexpensive route (which I usually do, because I’m cheap), it could take longer than you expect. If you use FedEx Express, chances are good that it will be delivered on time, even though they have record volume right now. Though you’d be crazy to order something to be delivered on Dec 24th. There is a big snowstorm brewing in the northeast to hit on the 24th, apparently.

FedEx has gotten at least two deliveries to us LATE. One of them was very time-critical, and I was so annoyed. These were overnight packages. Maybe it’s because Maine is hard to find? ;)

Ordered package to be delivered fedex on 12/8 from WVA to VA. Originally shipped by fedex but delivered today 12/18 by the USPS. I think with the holidays and volume of packages to be delivered it can take extra time. I have gotten packages as early as two days non holiday time.
