Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

I’m riding my bike early in the morning a little more with this heat. It doesn’t feel quite so bad when you’re moving quicker.

So far I have been able to watch both. Euros have been during the day and Copa at night. But MLS is still playing so I watched domestic club soccer last night.

I played 90 minutes of soccer in the heat this morning. We started 30 minutes early but it was still gross.

Does anyone on here happen to know of an out of the way place that would have VERY LIGHT 7 inch long shorts for women? I need them to play pickleball, and I would like to pay less than $40. I did order some Baleaf ones from Amazon, that I only paid $25 for last year but more this year. Other places all seem to be 60 bucks or more.

Have you tried Walmart.com. They seem to have Baleaf M or L in Black, and Small, Medium, Large in gray for $32?

And other cheaper options. I think I have these to sleep in., but this is a 4 pack for $36. Not sure I’d play pickleball in them. More like cotton but very light

They also have a lot of other options. I just typed in womens 7” shorts. And I think shipping is free if over $35.

If you want to wait for a sale, these are my favorite from athleta.

Light weight, longer, dry fast. Wore the shorter version over my swimsuit and was pretty comfortable.

I have the longer inseam and the shorter one. You are taller than me though

Nope, but thanks.

Thanks - I have 2 pairs of those shorts, in the longer length. I was just looking at them after pickleball today thinking I may just try wearing them. I consider them a little “too nice” for pickleball, but I might as well wear what I own already, right?

ETA - they are a little long (9-10 inches) but I may try them anyway.

Using something from your closet sounds reasonable.

These are inexpensive ($16), but the no-pockets would be a deal breaker for me.

Thanks - I agree with pockets, AND they look too heavy. I have lots of shorts, but when it’s really warm thinner is better, and the “quick dry” kind of material is better.

Anther idea is to drop by a local thrift shop. I have many fitness clothing items from the local ARC.

Usually I get tops - have many sleeveless biking jersey for running, and some of their pockets are big enough for pickleballs. At this point I only buy more if half price (usually about $3) with features I favor, donate some of the others.

When I got some shorts last year, I was happy when the reviews said they would hold up to 3 tennis balls.
However, please see below (I’m only posting this bc I know you’re new to pickleball):
Although it may be convenient to carry an extra ball when playing, doing so does entail some inherent risk if the ball is not secure. Not only does one risk losing the rally if the ball falls to the playing surface during the rally (see USA Pickleball Official Rulebook citation below), but you also risk injury if you happen to sustain a fall and land awkwardly on that ball.

These might be a tad too short for you, but I am loving these shorts for my regular wear. Last summer I was looking for new shorts <$25, no denim, no button/zipper, not to my knee and not micro length, pockets.

I found one $25 pair on Amazon that were ok, but I kept walking by these in Walmart. Thought they’d be too short but for $7 I’d give them a try. I absolutely love them! So soft and light and comfortable. And they hit me just right and look good. I went out and bought 3 more colors last summer and then another color this summer. 5 pair for $35. They’ll probably last me until I’m ready for the nursing home, lol. (I’m still wearing their $3 t-shirts from 5 years ago. Walmart clothes hold up much better for me than pricier stuff)

I wear more traditional running shorts for working out, but earlier this summer I got chafed badly from the bike and wore these instead. They did fine. But they also don’t have the built in liner like my running shorts.

P.S. I think it’s slick how you can choose from a bunch of different looking models and it tells you their size and measurements and see what it looks like on normal looking people

Cheap is good - but these look too short for me, and jersey material doesn’t work well for me out in the heat.
I really do appreciate all the suggestions!

Don’t laugh at me…it seems 7 inch inseam is a little harder to find for women…have you considered trying men’s running type shorts - like in a smaller size??? I wonder if they would be longer.

So like these…(look at all the pretty colors!!!)

I won’t laugh - I actually have thought of that! That’s what a friend did, but when I looked at hers more closely they actually did look a little funny. I may go try some on. I hate returning stuff through the mail, and my husband is only willing to do it occasionally.

Do you have a Sierra Trading Post? If I was going in person, that would be a great place to look. Most of their stuff IS fitness related and much larger selection than TJ Maxx (their counterpart!)

I sort of figured they’d be too short. But the material is weird. It doesn’t feel like most Jersey material that I’ve seen. It’s really light and fast drying.

7” are hard to find!

These are the shorts I’d like to try, but I don’t want to pay $70
