Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Days 2-4 of the walk are done. Day 2 was 13 miles with a couple of hills. Day 3 was 12 miles with one huge hill. Day 4 was 12 miles (plus 1.5 to our hotel) along old railway line so it was basically flat with a very slight uphil

We are having a blast. The difference between steps taken is facinating–fitbit does a crap job of measuring miles when you take short steps

I saw someone walking in the neighborhood with a weight vest the other day. And then after DD asked me about wrist weights, I saw another person wearing those in the neighborhood.

Just two data points, not sure it makes a trend yet. :slightly_smiling_face:

Not very practical, especially if you have a laptop. But it made me smile!

Scotland portion of trip is done with 3 very different days.

Day 5 was 15 miles on a spur trail. Weather was horrible but we did it anyway. Tbh parts were pretty scary as we were up in the clouds and trail was poorly marked. There was so much rain that tracts we were walking in were like mini-rivers.

Day 6 was long (17ish) with some really ⁰muddy bits and climbs.

Day 7 was also 17 miles with roughly 1/3 each of railbed, woodland paths and multi-use gravel path.

Pic is from day 5.

Thought the ladies might get a kick out of this article from 1906. We rescued a book from the school dumpster of news blurbs from every year in the 1900s. It’s fun to look through.

Yesterday was our Hadrian’s Wall walk. It was as spectacular as I remembered. It was a 14 mile hiking day with the 1st 5 being up and down a long flatish stretch and then a long downhill.

Photos are looking back at the up and down part.

I can’t imagine day after day of this mileage! And being with each other with nothing around you for DAYS! Do you run out of things to talk about, lol??

Thanks so much for sharing pics. When I see there are new posts here these days I’m hoping they’re pics from you. I’d love to do something like what you guys are doing.

Squatted to a whole 2 lb PR today. The PR’s are coming, which is great, just in very small increments. :slightly_smiling_face:

Also, benched to a heavy and finished up with a well-known CF HIIT called Fran, which is a 21-15-9 combo of thrusters and pull-ups.

Planning to do a meet, probably in January/February 2025 time frame. I’m also planning to run a 1/2, scheduled for September 2024.

Always glad to share. The tour company we work with has walks all over the UK and there are other companies that do the same things.

This type of supported walking where someone else moves your stuff is an amazing way to travel.

That’s how we do our bike trips. We have never done one that’s just walking/hiking, but we’ve had rafting, kayaking, and hiking as part of our trips. Are you guys part of a group, or is it just the 2 of you?

Just the 2 of us. Tour company books places to stay, moves bags and gives out guide book.

Last walking update for this trip. Our walk yesterday was another redo. We walked 16 miles from Patterdale to Shap (and then had another mile to our hotel). We took a different route than last time–instead of a super steep descent from the high point, we stayed up high longer.

It was definitely a tough day but I am super glad we did it.

One fun stat, because of differences in stride length and how we go down hills (she takes smaller steps while i dont change mine as much), i had 45k in steps and my wife had 50k

Not only am I so jealous of your amazing trip, but also you got to miss the most hellish month of weather ever back home. It’s been ungodly hot and humid without a break. Fortunately, by the time you get back, it should be back to normal hellish.

Whenever we walk as a family, it’s interesting to see the difference in mileages and steps on our phone. Older S and I always get shortchanged compared to H and younger S!

Wow, that’s a lot of steps and interesting to note the difference with stride over that long distance!

Beautiful pics.

Still trying to qualify for the Elliptical Olympics. Saturday is weigh in day(I do it every two weeks). Hoping a little better result. I am 164 days into this journey. Only 8 days where I didn’t do the elliptical for an hour.

I am contemplating to moving cardio before work and lifting weights 4 days a week at night.
