I think 3.5 miles in two walks is remarkable less than a week later!

Good luck on your recovery
That’s amazing Fallgirl! Great that you are up and about.
Training for the Elliptical Olympics continues. I am down 135lbs since 2/7/24. 21.5 lbs to go.
That is impressive. Must be a challenge with clothing as you zoom down through the sizes.
Definitely. I had some clothes one size down, but I have really dropped 4 sizes in shirts and 10-12 inches on my waist.
I just watched a YouTube video by a retired couple where they are going over 25 things the husband has noticed as he’s aged and what they are doing about it. He’s 67, and the wife is 59 so they really are focusing on him. Anyway, one thing he’s talked about is his physical changes. He is shrinking and he’s just not as interested in eating like he was so his goal is to maintain at 160 pounds. One way he’s doing that is lifting to keep from getting too small.
Later I watched a Jon Stewart podcast with a historian, and I noticed how frail he looked. Made me think of the other video and staying healthy-looking as we age. Lifting definitely is part of that. I think one reason my brother, who is 70, looks so much younger is he always has done a lot of physical work on his property. He looks strong and vigorous.
The other day, my trainer did a weightlifting session, and she really pushed us. Now I am at home watching on Zoom, so she would never know whether I was using 10s or 20s, but I went with the 20s. I don’t love lifting, but if I’m going to do it I should get more bang for my buck.
^^^ Important conversations above.
I think we can’t rely on one type of fitness. All cardio. All strength training. All balance exercises. We need a reasonable combination.
When the subject is brought up, with family, friends, coworkers, etc., I always mention to them that if you can only do one strength-based exercise, then squat. Obviously, more depth the better, but do your best.
I watch a few older gym members, there’s only a few of us, and they do nothing with their legs. But I also don’t know their medical history either.
We had some crappy weather here in Colorado, but today was a primo afternoon for pickleball. 58 degrees, strong sunshine. There were only two of us just hitting back and forth (after we did a volunteer gig together), but such fun!
I’ve been working for a year building my muscle mass (heavy lifting), balance (Bosu ball standing on flat part and rotating it), and leg strength moves. This has been for active longevity, reversing osteoporosis, and being able to ski/hike with my adult kids for years to come.
I went skiing for the first time in 25 years this past weekend with kids and did okay - didn’t break anything yay.
Going to keep doing those compound movements at the gym and increasing weights. As well as HIIT and balance (whew!).
Like abasket said - there are a lot of aspects to fitness. Haha it’s like a part time job keeping it all going (but so worth it!).
Funny you say that. The couple in the video I watched said that they see their job now as doing what they need to in order to stay healthy.
And if the result is to avoid (or postpone) needing assisted living etc…. the financial payback is substantial, in addition to the obvious quality of life benefits.
Yesterday for Veterans Day, the CF mothership programmed a workout called “Chad 1000X”, which consists of 1,000 box step-ups to a 20" box with a 45 lb or scaled 35 lb Ruck/backpack.
I opted to scale and thank goodness I did. The monotony and mind numbing nature of this workout is a 10/10. I almost lost my mind on this workout. WORST WORKOUT EVER!
Never would be too soon to do this workout again. 70 minutes! ![]()
Wow 1,000 box steps with a weighted vest - that’s a lot (and would seem kinda monotonous!).
I’ve trained myself to do about 5 box jump-ups and jump downs at the gym, lol. It took a while (started with box near wall so I could hold onto it if needed).
Youdon_t say - I do feel kind of lucky that I get to spend some mental real estate/time on this whole fitness-for-life thing. I know it wasn’t something my grandmother or mom realized they could prioritize annd other folks don’t have the space to fit that stuff in.
I don’t want to do 1000 of ANYTHING!
It is a grind for sure! 57:40 with no weight.
How do you guys count this stuff?
I lose count after 10 reps because my mind goes into the deep meditation and thoughts mode. ![]()
I had a really difficult time focusing on the task, my mind was wandering and then there were the conversations and everything else going on around me. One movement hero wods aren’t my “jam.”
And for my efforts, today my legs are extremely sore.
