I knew this ahead of time, so I used chalk to mark each 100 reps on the nearest rack to me.

I’m a rather mellow exerciser. So my counting method for hand weight exercise is to run a 9 minute Fitness Blender video on my Macbook, where the exercises are in 60 second increments. I mute the video and run Netflix in another screen. (I do same for 17 min lower body stretch, but no reps for that).
Fall soccer coaching is over, so I am down to playing just one night per week. If my buddies play on Saturday mornings then i might get to play. Life is crazy so not sure how much other exercise happens beyond walks to dinner for a bit.
Playing soccer typically yields between 3 and 4 miles of movement.
I am now 10 pounds down from my highest weight
I think a while ago we talked about weighted vests etc. Here is a relatively recent article on this topic, focusing specifically on benefits of walking in a weighted vest for women:
@gpo613 and @Jolynne_Smyth I just wanted to pop in and say that y’all are really inspiring to me! Great work!
I like that they describe the workout as a middleground of walking and running.
Thank you, ClassicMom98! Trying! ![]()
Thanks for the weighted vest article, Bunsen. The author says she started with 22 lbs. Whew - I started with 10 lbs and it made a huge difference (really felt like a much stronger work out). Started around the house for a few minutes then have done about 1.5 miles outside walking. Will work in doing this at least a couple of times a week…
Thanks @BunsenBurner - keeping this in mind for when I can go back lifting light weights.
This gives me an idea for a potential birthday present in two weeks! I’ll need to do some research to figure out which I would prefer. I feel like the ruck would make my back hurt, but I don’t know.
I have this one. 12 pounds. It is not expensive,
so if you don’t like it, not a whole lot of $$ wasted. I like that there is a front strap that goes above the boobs.

Thank you. I bit the bullet and ordered one - don’t forget the extra 5% coupon!! ![]()
Weighted vests seem to have potential for improved posture (but
“ Before incorporating a weighted vest into your routine for posture improvement, it’s advisable to consult with healthcare professionals or fitness experts”)
If Ruck has a great Black Friday sale, then I may pony up for one.
I’m getting back into fitness one day at a time. Went to a Level 1 yoga class yesterday. Skipped the planks and Vinyasas but otherwise did everything. I talked to the instructor before class about that (it’s not typical for me). Did the same at my afternoon dance class. Made it most of the way through, then took a break and sat out for awhile.
Being out with others is good for me both physically and mentally.
I’m a couple days into my weighted vest journey, lol. I bought a 12 pound vest. Holding it in hand, it feels heavy. Wearing on my body, feels comfortable! Right now I’m wearing it for each pup walk. During the week this is a 1-2 times a day mile walk. It doesn’t feel like too much at all but it DOES feel like an added bit of exertion - I need to check my heart rate a few times to see what it’s doing there.
Now I’m wondering what the recommendations are as far as benefit and distance or time? Is it recommended to be more beneficial if you’re wearing it for 3 miles than 1.5? Is it beneficial if it slows your pace down a bit?
For now it seems like a nice addition to a routine (walking the dog) that I’m already doing daily. I also think it might make those shorter frigid winter walks more beneficial - make that 1.5 mile cold walk a little more work!
Thanks for the update. Looking forward to your reports on the weighted vest. (So far I’m intrigued but keep laughing at myself and thinking, “maybe it would have been easier to just not have lost those 20 lbs”.)
I was gifted a weighted vest from my Buy Nothing group. I’ve been wearing it on the treadmill. I do notice the extra exertion, but I don’t like how it leaves my torso so sweaty.
Is it especially bulky - or covering a lot of your torso? I could see mine being a sweat hazard (
) in the summer but it’s decently compact.
Weighted vests are a “sweat hazard.” I mentioned that way back. If just walking with it, then I’d loosen it up to reduce the restriction. They’re usually very adjustable.
A backpack or Ruck has no material covering one’s chest area, which is an advantage.
It’s a molle vest.
