Believe me… we are just pulling off staging with pieces and parts. I don’t think it is going to be a knockout
I loaded some photos of pieces and parts in the midst of the chaos. I am off to get flowers for flower arrangements and more decor at Home Goods this morning. Then it is the final cleanout!! Still have to assemble an entire bed and get the bedroom knocked out and wash a lot of windows! Most furniture and plants into courtyard. Not to mention clearing out all the guy’s tools and crap
So far, looks great! Very MCM (by today’s standards
). You nailed it with the tulip table for the kitchen. I assume tulip chairs are coming, too? Couches look good, too!
For flowers, I highly recommend simple long stems like gladiolus in simple, tall, clear glass vases (like the florist kind without etching) and shorter stems like hydrangea in small, roundish bowls of clear glass. Simplicity is your buddy here.
TJ in our area sells 10 gladiolus stems for like $4-6. I absolutely love them.
cb, so far you’ve got a terrific MCM vibe going on. I know it’s just pulled together from odds and ends, but it looks great so far.
The dining table looks very solid! Your photos give it more justice that Wayfair product page.
I will seriously consider it for kiddo’s next apartment.
There’s a fine line between “cool retro look” and “grandma furniture”.
If I was looking at this house I’m not sure seeing the old style furniture would help me decide to buy it. I’m probably in the minority here, but I think it’s a big risk to fill the house with that kind of furniture.
This picture for example:

Even though the furniture is probably brand new it just looks old and out of date to me.
I have to wonder how many people walking through this house will appreciate the furnishings as an homage to the MCM style in a MCM house, and how many people will be scratching their head going “what were they thinking?” It’s one thing to preserve the architectural style while rehabbing it, but extending that to the furniture? IDK… most people can’t visualize what their own stuff will look like in a space, so the staging helps them see what it might be if they bought it. With furnishings so wildly different from what they own or like or are likely to buy, it is helping the buyer?
The goal after all is obviously to sell the house, not create a museum. Hopefully this furniture helps sell the place, but I don’t think it would help me to want to buy it.
Just my opinion, hate being a negative voice. I know nothing about style and decorating, though, so my $0.02 probably isn’t worth even that.
NRE, MCM vibe is definitely not East Coast thing. Here on the other left coast, this furniture says “cool and modern.” Just take a look at West Elm and other stores tailored to the younger crowd… Very popular here. Add a few brightly colored pillows and accents, and it will look great. MCM or not.
I love those couches! Where did you get them?
Part of the MCM joy is that things are up off the ground usually, so you don’t accumulate a mess of nasty and lost things under your couch.
Amazon sells lots of leggy furniture, and even Costco carries MCM-like stuff! It is getting traction, all over the place!
I’ve been looking at a cluster of mid-century houses for sale in our area, and a few were staged with tulip tables and similarly looking couches.
Oh god, next you’ll be telling me those horrid white-painted metal kitchen cabinets that my grandmother had in her kitchen are making a comeback.
Oh No-no-no-no-no… not to those! And no to avocado green or pink toilets! There is no comeback for those.
How can one not to marvel the simplicity of the Platner creations? Or the tulip table? Or those Sputnik lights?
In the middle of twilight photos right now.
OMG OMG the photos and the sunset are freaking amazing. Once again, almost crying after all the hard work this week
And a drone session at sunset!!
Sunset photos are da bomb!!! Especially with the myriad of lights in the distance!!
Whaaaa!!! This house is amazing. I want those views so badly.
What? I can only see staging furniture, is there a new link?
No photos yet. I just know they will he awesome.
Our realtor got sunset photo session for our House1 to highlight the gardens. The pics turned out quite spectacular. Can’t wait to see CB’s finished product!
Gladiolus make me think of funerals.
Can’t wait to see the pix!
Wow, the photographer worked until 2am editing the photos and they were in our email this morning!!!
I loaded one teaser photo. Working on many more
Wow! Spectacular entrance!
Ten stars!!! And I see what looks like a bunch of gladioli in a clear vase…
Defined not a funeral vibe.
Said gladioli are used here by chichi salons to beautify their reception areas.
