Florida State Class of 2029 Official RD Thread

OOS Denied. Not one Florida school accepted us this year but all other schools accepted with Honors. Kind of shocked but not surprised. Good thing my s25 doesn’t want to go to school in FL.

I think because this is RD, there’s nothing to defer them to. Usually defer is for EA to have their application reviewed for regular decision.

My son got deferred last year during RD. Because we are OOS, there was no such thing as Early Action for FSU. He had to wait until March to hear back from them.

Ah I forgot they have rolling decisions after RD. That makes sense.

CONGRATS! How did they communicate the grandparent waiver (where do you look for that information)? We submitted, but it’s not clear if he received it or not.

Thank you! “Scholarship letter - February 13, 2025” is linked at the bottom of the acceptance letter. Also, on the “next steps page” there is a box that says You received a scholarship.

No math majors in the admissions office ?

Am I missing something? 19,700/82,000 is 24%.

I think the 82k includes kids in rolling decisions that aren’t included in the acceptance/denied stats here bc a decision hasn’t been made yet. I’m not sure why they did it this way.

S21 loved his time abroad. FSU has a great setup with the study centers
Class Monday thru Thursday and if I remember correctly 2 weekend trips included and a couple Saturday Day trips included each semester
Made great friends and travelled with friends during weekends and Fall/Spring Break

Mine applied to 21, too. Same, to max out merit offers.

Is the National Merit of $2000 for just the first year or renewable for four years? The language in the acceptance letter wasn’t very clear.

Can someone shed light on Business School here and how hard it is to get in? Do kids study abroad junior year? Seems like most are away freshmen year. Are there many OOS kids compared to say UGA or Tennessee? It seems like it’s almost all Florida. Is it really that wild of a party school?

FSU has a first year study abroad option - and earns you in state tuition.

That might be what you are seeing.

If you want it to be a party school, it will be - like UGA or UTK or any other sports driven large flagship.

2nd image down is OOS data. Bcuz Florida has Bright Futures, in state will dominate - kids don’t want to leave and apply in droves.

Does anyone have any experience with Presidential Scholars? Daughter was selected as a finalist and we’re curious to hear about experiences, good or bad.

I don’t. Sounds amazing. Ask the program if they can set you ( or your student if you are the parent) up with one or two current Scholars.

Congrats.

S21 will be graduating in May. Not a Business major but can give info on other parts of post.

Study Abroad FSU has their First Year/Semester abroad programs at FSU campuses in London/Florence/Valencia/Panama City. S21 did the First Year Abroad in Florence and then the summer in Valencia it was an amazing experience for him.

These are set up to offer classes Freshman/sophmore’s usually take
or students looking to take classes over the summer with Valencia being very popular due to the beaches.

FSU offers the same type of study abroad opportunities that most schools do that don’t have Foreign campuses.

Is FSU a party school
It can be a a party school if you want it to be
That being said it is no more or less a party school than any school its size. IE. 35, 000 students State Flagship university in the SEC/BIG10/ACC etc.

Florida schools are mostly Florida kids. Several factors there is a state law that 90% of students have to be instate it is a university system wide average so UF/FSU have higher OOS numbers this is offset by other schools having lower numbers
Also, Bright Futures scholarships allows high stat students to attend Tuition free or 75% tuition paid by the state
Here is a complete breakdown of student body

OOS accepted. Unable to view/accept Financial Aid package. When trying to view in portal, we get: “System is down for processing. Please check back in a few hours.” Been that way for a few days, opened a case with FSU but waiting for a reply. Anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you solve it?

Son was awarded waiver. He initially didn’t because he inaccurately entered a C in one of his classes in his SSAR. But he had subsequently corrected that and it took his AO to review it to get him the waiver.

Housing numbers came out today… got in the high 4000’s. From what I’ve read, it’s an ok number, but under 3000 is the target.

Where did you get your #? We submitted all, but didn’t see an email!
