They didn’t last year - you may be able to get into a prospective student tour though.
The stats that were shared with us are 3006 honors and 611 presidential semifinalists. Is there a percentage that usually goes to the next round?
That’s really an interesting story. Glad to see it work out for her at FSU. I also toured FSU and UF (my new dream school) right before we did disney. Funny how that works lol.
thank you -this is really great to hear!
Congrats ! Did you visit and was her SAT high?
Thanks! She hasn’t done an official visit/tour yet, but planning on doing that very soon. We were waiting until she got the admission results before doing real tours. She is actually on an admissions tour now at a different school, but I don’t see anything beating the package FSU offers for what she wants to study. She submitted the ACT and had a 32.
The waiver is only considered for certain stats. Your dd’s ACT is below what they consider.
accepted to nursing
oos
4.3w/3.95uw
7 total APs, mainly honors courses
ACT 27 & 28, superscore 29
lots of volunteer hours at hospital + sports all 4 years
no tuition waiver
Housing question. Does anyone know what type of housing lottery number one has to get to get into one of the new most desired dorms? Do upperclassmen get first priority and it’s only freshmen in this lottery sign up happening soon?
FSU PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARS OR UNC-CHAPEL HILL
I just got into the FSU honors college and got the out of state tuition waiver. This doesn’t mean that much to me though because I am from NC and got into UNC, and I think standard UNC academics for business and political science is better than FSU honors, plus I love the campus and have been a fan my whole life. BUT I am a semi-finalist for presidential scholars, which would make my college $42k cheaper. (Also I am lucky enough to be able to graduate debt free regardless). It looks like there are only 25ish students in the program per class. Assuming I did get in, which should I choose, FSU Presidential Scholars or UNC? How selective and helpful would it be for me to get a high paying selective business job?
I would say if you want a job after graduation in NC, then definitely go to UNC. And in general I would personally choose UNC over FSU for prestige.
Frankly, I would choose UNC over FSU.
If you want that first job in NC then I would say NC. If not, then FSU with the scholarship. Note I said first job, because after that your college means much less. You will prove your value and ability at your job and most future employers won’t care that much where you graduated from. Also, if you are going to some type of graduate school, that also reduces importance of undergrad school location. Finally, keep in mind how well you do in college is often as important as where you graduated from if the schools are at all comparable. Employers are smart enough to know where you graduate from is decided by where you got in and could afford. That means where you graduate from is determined by high school grades, standardized tests score and parent financial support. None of that is more important than your success while at college.
My D23 was deferred last year with a 95% GPA, good ECs and similar ACT. She was admitted a few weeks later through the global pathway program. The year abroad was very enticing, especially with instate tuition the three years on campus, but she had applied to the film school but was accepted to Digital Media Production so she never seriously considered going.
There is no comparison in my opinion between UNC and FSU on any level lol. Go to UNC and Chapel Hill regardless of the $. If you love Chapel Hill then you will not like Tallahassee, which isn’t exactly safe and has a mixed bag of elements. The school’s academically don’t compare, nationally or state wise. Congrats on your UNC acceptance, take it and run with it
My son currently has that choice; FSU or UNC. Still waiting on UF this Friday. If admitted, the UNC vs UF will be a more difficult decision.
The undergraduate career outcomes for UNC-Chapel Hill Business students are given below
The Big 3 (MBB) for consulting and I-banks recruit at UNC and definitely not at FSU. Salaries for industries outside of these two are going to be comparable at FSU and UNC. So it really depends on what industry you are aspiring for. However, two things to keep in mind - admission to the B-school at UNC at the end of freshman year is quite competitive and competition for MBB/I-banks is also going to be competitive once you enter.
My child is having a hard time deciding. Did not get in FSU as a first year student but was offered the Aspire TCC to FSU plan (not sure if this is offered to everyone). We didn’t do a huge deep dive in to FSU knowing it would be a reach as OOS. What is the city like? Safety concerns? Can kids at TCC experience all the perks of FSU? Anyone do this route? Other top choice is Pitt - which academically we feel is a better choice and fit vs the first 2 years at CC - loved the city (just not the weather). Pitt however would be the much more expensive route. TIA congrats to all that got in!
Hi! I got admitted into the honors college and am looking to live in the Landis, which honors gets preference for. I’m in the process of signing the housing contract, but I’m confused on how housing knows that I’m in honors, as there isn’t a spot to put that on the application, just if I want to live in a LLC (which honors isn’t?). Does anyone know? Should I check yes to LLC?
Dorm and room selection hasn’t started yet. This first part is just to get registered and pay a fee.
