Florida State University Class of 2028 Official Thread

My daughter’s housing contract number is in her portal. Is there anyone else that did the lottery for housing?

Yes, I see it too got a number in the 1200s, is that meaningful?

Much better than ours, we are in the 3000s…

Thank you so much for this information. We are in NY and it is a long way to travel. I am unsure that a normal 2 hour tour will be enough to provide clarity for such a big decision.
I will take your advice and reach out to his department and/or advisor and see what other opportunities we might be able to add on to our tour that day.

1800s for my son. I wonder how high it goes up to.

1100s for my daughter but she plans to try to find a roommate match and it will then depend on what their higher number is between them. Also she will likely be in honors dorm. A single room would be great but I suspect there is not much chance of that for a freshman.

22dad, when you say “higher” number do you mean a better selection or worse? Housing said if you try and find your own roommate, they base it off the worse number. Just confirming you heard what I heard in the housing webinar. My daughter is similar situation…honors but number is in 2500’s.

Tally can be a pain to reach. We flew from Newark to Jacksonville and then drove for 2.5 hours. Please do reach out to his department explaining the situation. Normally, they are quite responsive. We scheduled meetings at COB, the campus tour and the International Programs Office for Study Abroad to make the trip to FSU worthwhile.

I plan on same thing…fly Boston to JAX, drive, schedule department visits. I’ve also had some luck with finding people on Social Media, current students, that would be willing to bring you around for a few $$.

Yep, I mean bigger number so worse number.

How are you able to see the housing portal?
My son is at school w no access to his phone
He asked me to look today, and even with his login and pw
It’s sending a dual authentication to his cell
I am able to see the admissions stuff no prob, but this is not convenient:)

It will send the “is this you?” verification message to your son’s device the first time you log in from a different device. He would need to verify, on his phone, that the new device is also an approved device before it will let you officially log in.

I only know the number because my daughter texted and told me. Regarding the #, it’s so tough to say what will happen because you don’t know how many of the kids signed up for housing will actually attend FSU. There could be a whole bunch that decide to go elsewhere.

My daughter is in the 1100’s and her friend she wants to room with is in the 500’s, so they were relieved since that should guarantee one of the MADD dorms.

Does anyone know how the housing contract numbers work when it comes to current students? I assume students already in housing get first choice before this incoming class?

Yes, we are in-state and know someone who did not get housing for their second year.

How is that possible if they get first choice before freshmen? Maybe she didn’t register on time or something?

My son is a current freshman, they have finished their initial room selections for next year already. There are separate dorms/apartments that are for upperclassmen, although I believe a couple of them also hold out rooms for incoming freshman. For them, it depends on how many credit hours you have for your placement in line to choose a room, the more you have, the earlier you get to pick. I do know that not everyone was able to get in for housing, but some of those students who did get housing will end up deciding to move off campus or transfer, so hopefully everyone who wants to stay on campus ultimately will. For incoming freshman, the lower your lottery number, the better your choices will be. Anything below 4,000 last year was considered to be a good number as the numbers went up close to 9,000 I believe. You have to remember that people put down the housing deposit to get into the lottery just in case they end up going to FSU, many will ultimately not go, so your child’s number will get “better”. My son was right around 3,500 last year and ended up in one of the top dorms. But it is true that if you want to room with someone who has a much higher number, the school will go with that number and your selection may not be as good.

Hello! Planning a visit for my admitted student the week of March 25 and will need an overnight hotel stay. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! TIA.

We like to stay by college town there is an Indigo, Residence Inn, Hampton Inn and a Hyatt Place.
They are a little on the pricey side for their brand and fill up fast
