For anyone that was admitted, did anyone receive notice of getting a Grandparent Tuition Waiver? If not, any idea as to when those notices will start to go out?
Definitely applied. Received letter stating rejection. I was also surprised! But, I know there are many wonderful applicants and a limited number of spots. Being from OOS, we are happy for the acceptance, but cannot commit with no honors at such a large university.
My daughter received one on her scholarship letter today.
Iâm curious. Why do you want honors so much? I have read and heard it is extra work with little to no benefit.
My daughter OOS was deferred
11APs & 6 DE/3.6 UW/4.22 W/27 ACT/ECs: very good - worked for 4 yrs, 3 varsity sports (w/ state & regional awards), president/founder of 4 clubs, uni research experience, deca awards, etc./ 300ish volunteer hours / National Hispanic Recognition Award
Just wondering how competitive is Rolling Decision and what might her chances look like?
I guess the biggest benefit is early class registration and smaller classes. Thatâs interesting!
Doesnât honorâs give you early registration and possibly some better honorâs advisors. The early registration can be important so you end up getting the classes that you need and the professors that you want.
That makes sense. I just donât know if that benefit is worth so much extra work. Especially when you can graduate with honors without being in honors.
Congratulations and good to know! Do you know what date you submitted your waiver application?
DanceMom2006 - didnât you say NMSF? If advanced to finalist, that should convert to an auto admit into Honors (with National Merit Scholarship on top) even after a rejection of the honors application.
Thank you! Yes we knew it would be best to get it in early so she submitted her application and waiver information on August 3, 2023.
Oh wow. Had no idea! We will ask admissions about this! Thanks for the info.
That is great! We didnât get ours in until September 29. Wish us luck!
I am going through the same process! Rejected from honors so am moving on. Congrats to everyone who was accepted!
Son got in, but there was no mention in anyway OOS waiver. Does it mean he didnât get that? Thanks and congratulations to everyone that got in!
Youngest son was just accepted including honors. In state, 3.98 uw, 4.4 weighted, 1310 SAT.
Saw above questions about honors and value. There are smaller class options, dedicated dorms, dedicated study spaces / building, dedicated advisors, support for pre-med / pre-law, early registration, etc⊠I was impressed when my oldest was considering it two years ago. Its was a lot of small school benefits in the middle of a large university. Oldest ended up with a full ride at a private university near home (books, tuition, room / board, study abroad) which is the only reason he didnât do it. The individualized support can be a huge benefit down the line I believe, especially if they want to do med school or law school. Youngest is waiting to hear about about medical honors, but that seems a stretch with how competitive that is.
FSU Honors program also has a lateral admission process for freshman students who apply in their Spring term. That requires a GPA of 3.8 or higher in freshman year.
S21 did Florence Fall/Spring then Valencia for summer
Yes if you apply early itâs not guaranteed but almost everyone is accepted until and if capacity reached
Valencia very popular summer because of beach. You are able to change locations for summer term
S21 had an amazing time in Florence and Valencia
Accepted with OOS waiver
1460. 3.8uw/4.5w
Did not get honors
