@Elmimino “I don’t know if @GMTplus7 is aware that post #16 sounds just awful. But they should know. Thanks @LakeWashington for calling this out.”
I am not sure why many seem to think this is so offensive. Maybe I don’t understand it.
As I read it, GMTplus7 is just saying that if the only advantage she has is “making sure it get looks at” that it is not very significant. I did not read it as suggesting that President Obama is a dictator in any way.
Though I hardly think that Tulane would be a pick for Malia Obama, it would be nice for her film interest seeing that New Orleans is getting a lot of attention from tv shows and movie production; plus going south doesn’t seem to be an interest of hers that we know of haha. I think NYU would also be a good fit as well as Stanford for film studies.
I wonder if Malala Yousafzai and Malia will somehow end up attending the same colleges (Stanford). That would be interesting!
@justonedad@sax Sure the security helped, but trust me, a lot of it is good old fashioned parenting. If you read about Michelles upbringing, you wouldnt be shocked.
absolutely agree @partyof5 I think it was mostly mama Obama keeping the cubs safe and in tow. I just get the impression she can be fierce when needed. I am impressed she was able to do this so well.
Folks, the current No. 16 is not the same post. After my comment the original post was deleted. GMT did not make the comment that I viewed as mean spirited.
I think given her obvious interest in film-making, she’s going to end up at a school that has an excellent reputation for that. I suspect those are at the top of her list right now.
That being said, maybe she did the internship and decided she’s not as passionate about film-making as she thought, and she goes in another direction.

What happens to her Secret Service protection as of inauguration day Jan 2017?
<<<
Yes, I remember Pres Geo W Bush ordering that Chelsea would continue to receive SS protection. These presidents, regardless of party, understand that the children are vulnerable and deserved protection. It is likely a tradition that will continue, and should.
Former First Ladies receive life-long protection.
Is it true that Malia is interested in Film? While NYU may seem good for that, I just don’t see her going there.
I’d absolutely support SS support post presidency for the children of presidents, especially up through college. It just makes sense for the child and everyone else at that school.
I would hope his kids continue to receive protection. President Obama has received more death threats than any other president, heck, he had to get security quicker than any other candidate before he became president.
It used to be that, after 18, P and VP kids could elect whether or not they wanted to continue SS protection. My brother was friends with one who did not.
edit: I thought it was 18 but now I see this, “President Obama has now signed the repeal. HR. 6620, the “Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012,” also gives Secret Service protection to former First Ladies and guarantees agents will continue to shadow children of former Presidents until they become 16 years of age.”
I think, obviously, private security is a possibility.

Not to get specific, but I wonder if there are candidates in the current pool who wouldn’t extend it.

I doubt it. Politics is one thing, a former first family’s safety is another. You’d have to be a real sicko nutcase not to want the children of a former president to be protected from some assassin or kidnapper.
I kind of think she may go for a west coast college. I can’t see her mom allowing Berkeley so my money on Stanford. It would be a completely different vibe, far away from her parents and a great stopover spot for family vacations in Hawaii.
If she gets caught doing shots of tequila or spending the night in a boys room, at least her dad would have the 5 hour flight to cool off!
i know this is a longshot candidate, but since she did tour Wesleyan, I’ll throw out there that it has a very good film studies program with a lot of big name alumni.
