Forum Issues!

Me too, and I am getting site is too busy errors just like before. And the mobile site is exactly the same for me.

Dr. Google suggests that the 503 Guru Mediation error might be Drupal related, and could be fixed (by tech staff) I by changing the DB Config in settings.php to ‘port’ =>’’; – not that Dr. Google is always right, of course.

I found that double refreshing despite the loss of the “log in” repaired the log in problem. The server service is probably dropping cookie packets, but your browser still has them, so refresh refresh… refresh.

I thought this problem was just me. I am so disgusted by these “improvements”. Can’t we go back to the old forum? All those issues we wrote about before still exist. Too much white space, posts not counted, ya-da, ya-da. Now this! I am so very saddened by all this, since as a result, numerous posters are no longer here. And I don’t know how to access all those old posts, which were so informative. Why oh why were these changes made at all? It stinks!

Yep, getting guru meditation. I don’t think it has anything to do with yoga techniques taught by a yogi guru.

My sign-in problem has been only intermittent, but what’s really disappointing is that every time I log in, I find the same site. Also, no communication from CC about what they’re doing to fix any of this, or when. I’m beginning to think that’s because they don’t intend to fix any of it, and don’t have the guts to tell us.

The poster who said to refresh the page to log-in is absolutely correct. It makes life much easier to refresh than actually log-in repeatedly.

I’ve been experiencing it also: constant logins and guru meditation error messages. I also find the draft saving thing irritating, since it frequently freezes me out of typing.

Refresh doesn’t always resolve it for me. Sometimes backpaging does, sometimes not. My Guru messages refer to Varnish- your explanation makes sense, Archer.
Also not keen on auto save for drafts- who cares? I just have to keep clearing My Drafts and that’s a one by one task.
What also bugs me, though, is the noticeable absence of some fellow posters.

@teriwtt, thanks for piping in.

Ha, the guru is meditating again.

I just now started experiencing the problems described above on my iPad. There sure are lots of dog owners on this forum!

Same problems here. I am also frustrated by the lack of response to the user’s critiques of the new site. Another poster on an earlier thread reminded us that we don’t pay for this but let’s not forget that CC is paid by the ads that populate it and without the CC posters, that will go away.
I have not been frequenting the forum as often as I used to. I just find it so frustrating and cumbersome.
Also, how does one attach a document in a PM? i was trying to help out a student with proofing his essay and had no way to send it to him.

The entire CC site shifts randomly from what seems to be mobile app form to the standard computer form. I access the site from an IPad, but always from safari. And I do not log in unless I am going to comment. I will enter the site in the exact same way every time, from a google search, directly to the parents forum, without signing in, and get completely different results. Sometimes I find myself in the completely annoying app form with very difficult navigation, very user unfriendly, and sometimes I find myself in the full site, which is much more user friendly. This also happens randomly when I leave a thread and return to the parents forum, or move between the parents forum and parents cafe.

If i was not already very familiar with the site, this random change in form and usability would cause me to not use the site at all!

And last night…every time I sent a PM, I got a service unavailable message, regpfreshed, and then sent. Now really, if it’s unavailable, it shouldn’t have worked the second time. And it it was available, it should have worked the first.

This is still happening this morning.

My guru meditation thing is now coming up in the middle of the page.

I just got some new, very strange message after I tried to log in ( refreshing didn’t work that time) but I’ve forgotten what it was.

This site is so awful, I think they need to hire the wiz kids who fixed healthcare.org.

Did you see the top dude at the Common Application got canned the other day? Really, I’m pretty astonished that after the huge mess that was the Common App this year – clearly implemented without anywhere close to adequate testing* – the very same company relaunched CC on new software without anywhere close to adequate testing. You’d think someone would have said, hmmm…how’d that strategy work for us before?

*Their explanation for why the green check (section completed) markers on the common app got messed up: they didn’t realize students might not complete each question fully in order and might hopscotch from question to question. Um right…like what the heck did they think students were going to do when asked questions (how many students are in the senior class?) that they don’t know the answer to right now – skip that one and go to the next. (Other famous questions: what specific date did you take the ACT? Not just month – the date. What date will you graduate from high school? Again, not just the month, but the specific date.)

And what happened to the updates from the admins? We are all just left hanging here frustrated.

It really is very disappointing that the so-called improvement has been such an unmitigated disaster. The forums have been such a great resource as well as such a good place to share and discuss information on so many varied topics. I can see that many of the longtime members have left. I certainly am not visiting as often as I used to because it is so incredibly frustrating to use the site now and with the problems discussed in this thread, which it sounds like we’ve all experienced, things seem to be getting worse instead of better. So many of the listed items of concern have not been addressed, let alone fixed. Blah. What a mess they’ve made of one of my favorite places on the internet.

^^^^^agree with all you said above.

Interesting that I see the Guru message on my Mac laptop but not on my PC laptop (running windows 7 pro). And yes agree, there still are things that I was able to do on the old forum that I haven’t figured out on the new, if they’re available at all. It shouldn’t be this difficult!

I auspect that if this weren’t our favorite place to hang out, many of us would have departed by now. Ask me why I have not bought a thing from RueLaLa in the past 6 months - their mobile site reeks and there is no option for me to see the full version on my mobile phone!
